Lucky FC and Central Stars FC have emerged winners of the Centre One and Centre Two categories respectively at the 13th edition of the Comr. Adamade Football Tournament held in Obudu, Cross River State.
Lucky FC clinched the Centre One title after defeating All Stars of Bedia 7–4 on penalties, while Central Stars FC secured victory in Centre Two with a 2–1 win over Bayobri FC at full time.
The tournament, which has been held annually for 13 years, was established to promote unity among youths from different backgrounds and provide a platform for peaceful interaction, friendship and healthy competition.
It also seeks to reduce idleness and youth restiveness, promote teamwork and discipline, and create opportunities for young people through sports.
In Centre One, All Stars of Bedia finished as second runners-up and received ₦240,000, while Davis Touch FC emerged first runners-up, receiving ₦600,000 and jerseys.
Lucky FC, the champions, received ₦800,000 and jerseys.
In Centre Two, Ukwutia FC finished as second runners-up and received ₦240,000.
Bayobri FC emerged first runners-up and received ₦600,000, medals for each player and jerseys, while Central Stars FC, the winners, received ₦800,000 and jerseys.
Individual awards were also presented to outstanding players and officials. Emmanuel Ugal was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament, while Abraham Adamade won the Best Goalkeeper award.
Mike Erunke was named Best Coach, while Gabriel Alikpang emerged as the Highest Goal Scorer.
The closing ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including the Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. Peter Undiandeye, PhD; Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly and member representing Obudu State Constituency, Hon. Sylvester Agabi; former Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. Boniface Eraye; Special Adviser to the Governor on Aviation, Hon. Ken Aklah; Hon. Isaac Ishamali, PhD; and Mr. Zack Agba, among others.
Speaking at the event, the Coordinator of the tournament, Mr. Mayor Undeshi, commended the sponsor for sustaining the competition for 13 consecutive years.
Undeshi explained that the decision to introduce two centres for this year’s edition was aimed at making participation more convenient for the teams, particularly in terms of transportation and logistics.
He said the expansion had become necessary as the tournament continued to attract participants from beyond Obudu, including youths from Obanliku, Calabar and neighbouring Benue State.
According to him, the tournament was conceived as a means of addressing social vices among youths in Obudu and has grown into a competition that brings young people from different communities together.
“The idea was to curb the social vices in Obudu, and he has been resilient. It started in Obudu, but now people come from Obanliku, Calabar and Benue State to participate,” Undeshi said.
Also speaking with TheLumineNews, the organiser of the tournament, Comr. Odey Adamade, expressed satisfaction with the growing participation of young people in the annual competition.
Adamade said his greatest joy was seeing youths gather every year to share in the excitement and spirit of the competition.
He added that the smiles and excitement on the faces of participants and spectators remained a major source of motivation for sustaining the tournament.
The 13th edition of the Comr. Adamade Football Tournament once again provided a platform for youths to showcase their footballing talents while fostering friendship, unity and peaceful coexistence across communities.
