    Ayade Inaugurates CSDA Board Charges Them To Improve Human Development Index

    His Excellency, Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade, the Executive Governor of Cross River State, today inaugurated a 17-member committee of the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) Board to further improve on the Human Development Index and Gross Domestic Product of the State.

    The Commissioner for International Development Cooperation, Dr. Inyang Asibong, who inaugurated the committee on behalf of His Excellency goaded the members to carry on with the mandate of this administration in ensuring a trickle down of development across the State.

    “The World Bank has commended the Cross River State Government led by His Excellency, Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade, for the CSDA initiative as it is the best way to bring development across the State, especially in the hinterlands.

    “So far we’ve carried out well over 30 (Thirty) micro-projects across the State this year ranging from potable water supply, to solar-powered LED street lights, lavatories to cub open defecation, renovation of classroom blocks and employment of youths and vulnerable people within our communities”

    The board is Chaired by Chief Toni Joe Ikpeme, with the Secretary being the Acting GM of the Agency, Mr Fidel Udie, thanked the State Government for the opportunity to serve and promised to give their best in the discharge of their duties collectively.

    The board also has four non- statutory members, the Permanent Secretaries from the ministries of Finance, Works, Women Affairs, Local Government Affairs, Social Welfare and Humanity, International Development Cooperation, and the State Planning Commission, and four representatives from Civil Society Organizations.

    The Cross State Government has approved and released the sum of Fourteen million naira for the immediate commencement of 6 micro projects across two communities in Calabar South. The Community and Social Development Project (CSDP) has handed over the funds as approved by the Governor, Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade, to support the multi sectoral micro projects recently approved for the two communities to also aid the communities fight the coronavirus pandemic.

    Speaking at the cash disbursement activity for projects, the Commissioner for International Development Cooperation, Dr. Inyang Asibong, said the release of funds is a highpoint in the CSDP cycle after completing the rigorous process of appraisal and capacity building that qualifies every community to access funds.

    The project is sequel to requests by the benefitting communities for support by the Government in areas of Electricity and Potable Water Supply to boost development. The projects include integrated LED street light system, concrete electricity pole erection and borehole with transformers to power the communities, she continued.

    Whilst acknowledging the State Governor for paying the needed counterpart fund which is a requisite for World Bank’s support, she charged the beneficiary communities to ensure prompt implementation of these projects with emphasis on global best practices, as she concluded.

    The  Chairman of the CSDP Board, Mr. Tony Ikpeme, encouraged the communities to continue to make wise use of disbursed funds as the Governor Ayade-led administration will not rest in its oars to bring development to the length and breadth of the State.

    On his part, the Ag. General Manager of the State Community and Social Development Agency, Mr. Fidel Udie appealed to the benefiting communities to carry out continuous supportive supervision of the project until it is completed, as this will attract more projects to the community and other communities. Others present at the event were HRH Etubom Efio Ita Effiom and Etinyin Ewa for Eyo Ita/ Edibe-Edibe community, while Chief Eyo Effiom Henshaw, Chief Bassey Ekeng Maurice Effanga represented the Ansa-Ewa community.

    The  event was well attended by relevant stakeholders who observed social distancing and other precautionary measures as directed by the State Government.

    Covid 19 Palliatives: C’River Begins House-To-House Engagement To Update The Single Social Register

    In compliance with the directives of Governor Ben Ayade to update  the Single Social Register to ease the distribution of relief materials to the poor and vulnerable people in Cross River State inline with the Federal Government policy,the State Ministry of International Development Cooperation has commenced the house to house engagement of citizens in the villages.

    The event which started at the “Urban Village” of Mekenge in Calabar Municipality Area Council, was led by the  Commissioner for International Development Cooperation, Dr. Inyang Asibong to monitor the index of the Community under appraisal and  examine the  verification exercise of the Youth Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO) progrqmme.

    Accompanied by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Eric Anderson who isb a native of Calabar Municipality, Asibong said, the exercise served a dual purpose of updating the current register with details of household under the poverty threshold and also follow up on those previously registered to ensure that the previous interventions  are judiciously utilized.

    “Today we are here in Mekenge Community of Calabar Municipal Council to carry out a verification exercise to update the Single Register for Poor and Vulnerable Households (SRPVH).

    “We will also seized the opportunity to further sensitize your  community on the deadly coronavirus pandemic and the need to be very proactive in following the preventive measures of the State Government.” said Asibong.

    On his part, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism,Hon Eric Anderson urged the community to continue to support the State Government, especially as the State is working assiduously to mitigate against the containment of the coronavirus pandemic into the state.

    Some of the  potential beneficiaries who were identified base on the index verifications includes  Mr. Nsa Samuel William, Mr. Victor Udofia Ekpo and Mrs. Arit Edet Asuquo who expressed delight for being chosen by their community for inclusion in the register as they have been living in extreme penury before this intervention.

    The National Bureau of Statistics put the Poverty index in the country  at 40.1% with 82.9 million Nigerians living below the poverty line,while In Cross River State, it is  36.3%, which is better than the national average,But  Governor  Ayade said,the state index is still high and unacceptable ,hence his directive  to improve work to reduce the index to manageable percentage.

    As part of the post Covid-19 reform plans, Ministries Departments and Agencies in Cross River State will henceforth embrace world Bank Multi-Sectoral model in progrqmme and Project Implementation.

    Governor Ben Ayade stated this at the quarterly Steering Committee meeting of the World Bank,State and Local Government Reform Project (SLOGOR) in Calabar.

    Ayade who was represented by the Commissioner for International Development Cooperation (MIDC),Dr Inyang Asibong, explained that the new strategy will guarantee system monitoring and evaluation of projects inline with the world bank standard.

    Asibong posited that the battle against novel coronavirus pandemic has affected the state economy like everywhere in the world, assuring that the state will ensure the new model reduce excesses in all MDAs using various World Bank instruments.

    The CRS World Bank instruments according to Asibong ,will strengthen Cross River State Integrated Financial Management Information System (SIFMIS), Medium Term Fiscal Strategy Model (MTEF ) and Medium Term Sector Strategy (MTSS).

    She assured the MDAs that Governor Ayade’s Efforts working with the world bank have started producing result to adjust to life in what is now referred to as the “New Normal”.

    “Let me at this point sue for cooperation and support of all the line MDAs on this new strategy of the post covid-19 economy response implementation of the State Government in line with the Federal Government and World Bank’s support.

    “The collective achievement of this effort will position Cross River for life after the Covid-19 pandemic” she said

    The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mrs Stella Odey in her remarks advised the Committee to take proper advantage of the State Government’s stimulus packages in the face of the covid-19 pandemic while they develop a sectoral and economic management strategy across all the MDAs in this regard.

    “The State Government has made available stimulus packages in monetary policies, job opportunities in the Health, Agriculture, Environment and Security sectors as well as Community micro projects that will provide a safety net for residents of the State during the covid-19 crisis and beyond” she explained.

    Some of the line MDAs present at the meeting includes the State Auditor General,
    the State Accountant General; the Executive
    Chairman State Internal Revenue Service; the SLOGOR Project Coordinator; the Special Adviser Budget; the MIDC Permanent Secretary and his counterpart in Ministry of Finance among others.

    Like the popular eye-catching, elegant double stemmed purple orchid, he came to the world with a clear vision. A vision with a great deal of symbolism like the orchid, that always shines at every opportunity given to radiate in a widespread family of flowering plants, with blooms that are often colourful and fragrant, like the orchid in him.

    He was born great from a humble background in Agwagune, Biase, in the then South Eastern Nigeria.

    Excellence is his second name, from Elementary to College to University, it was Distinction all the way as he sorjourned in his Academic pursuit from Agwagune to Itigidi, Abakaliki, Ugep and Okpoma in Yala, the Quality radiated at every point. Then to Ile-Ife in the then Western Nigeria and Zaria in the Northern part of the country, the legacies of Excellence imprinted his every step like a collosus.

    Coming back to the first Capital of Nigeria’s Southern Protectorate, where he again Excelled to become the no 1. citizen of the revered Ivory Tower, the University of Calabar, no wonder, why HE Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade, still calls him the Vice Chancellor of Cross River State.

    A Professor of Soil Science with records of research all over Nigeria and beyond, who has produced legends and academicians shining bright beyond the shores of Africa.

    An adherent and lover of Culture, Tourism and Development of African Arts and artifacts. Little wonder he was appointed to serve Nigeria at the highest decision making body in the country, The Federal Executive Council as a Minister of the Federal Republic.

    His trademark of Excellence has made him serve as a Federal board Chairman and member of different Federal boards and parastatals. He also became a Commissioner of his state at a very tender age of 31 and performed Excellently.

    Now, Excellent performances have made him The Excellency of a beautiful state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a State Governed by two erudite Professors.

    Together with his Digital Boss, these two Professors have pushed boundaries, created new frontiers, broken records and set them again, all in a bid to take CRS to greater heights

    A trustworthy, reliable, and hardworking servant- leader of the people. As you celebrate you birthday today, I can only say your best is yet to come because you have produced many children both in Academics and Leadership.

    Happy Gallant 69th Birthday to the Qunitessential Deputy Governor Of Cross River State.
