Understanding How The #JariBurs Selection Process Works… BY AGBA JALINGO

The data collected during the application had the selection process in mind.

A spreadsheet has since been developed of all entries with the time stamps and corresponding information requested.

Therefore, the serial numbers will follow accordingly.

    1. The entries will initially be filtered by the Local Government initially. Entries with more than one Local Government Area will be automatically disqualified at this stage.

    2. Data will be replicated in five different spreadsheets, one for each Local Government Area in Cross River North.

    3. The data for each Local Government will be revalidated to remove multiple entries.

    4. Thereafter, the RANDARRAY function on Excel 365 will be used to randomly generate numbers matching the total entries for each Local Government Area.

    5. For example, Yala Local Government has 743 entries, therefore, numbers randomly generated will vary from 1 to 743. Thereafter, the first 100 generated will be copied.

    6. The SHOWROWS function will automatically highlight the entries whose numbers are generated.

    7. Then comes the hard work! Each entry will be carefully checked for the following three key uploads;

    i. How do you verify identity? (Name of applicant and their Local Government of Origin).

ii. How are you sure the person is a student? (Hence the Admission letter).

iii. Is the person active as a student? (Evidence of payment of fees in the current session).

    8. Each selected entry must scale through this hurdle before the bank details will be checked to ascertain it is not a proxy.

    9. If the process does not return 100 beneficiaries among the first randomly generated numbers, the process from Number (4) will be repeated to generate the remaining beneficiaries.

Now you know how it will work. And like I said previously, this process may not be perfect or full-proof, but it will definitely return results that are better than what was done previously.

This initiative is powered by Sen Jarigbe Agom, representing Cross River North Senatorial District.

    Yours sincerely,
    Citizen Agba Jalingo.

Jarigbe Flags Off Rural Water Project In 22 Communities Benefit From Water Supply

No fewer than twenty-two (22) communities in Cross River North Senatorial District are set to benefit from Senator Jarigbe Agom’s rural water supply project, as the lawmaker flags off the project in the Senatorial District.

During the 2024 Christmas celebration, Senator Jarigbe had directed all affected communities to contact the constituency officer and report if they lacked access to clean and affordable water.

The communities, which had previously decried perennial water scarcity and lack of access to drinking water, noted that Senator Jarigbe kept his word.

Representing Senator Jarigbe Agom at the flag-off ceremony in Ogoja, Constituency Officer Mr. Egar Mgbantul stated that the rural water project, which has become an annual initiative, aims to fulfill the basic needs of the people. It ensures access to safe domestic water, good hygiene, and other basic amenities in the affected communities.

According to Mr. Egar, access to potable water is a fundamental human right. He also assured constituents that communities not captured in this phase will benefit from the next phase.

The benefiting communities, spread across the five Local Government Areas of the Senatorial District, include:

For Clarity On #JariBurs BY AGBA JALINGO

I want to confirm that I am coordinating the #JariBurs bursary program for Sen Jarigbe Agom. I am not a member of his party neither do I have anything or intend to do anything with his political party. But I have written about so many things about our Senatorial District and he agrees to implement some. He listens if you make sense and can articulate your ideas firmly and convincingly.

The ideas have been simple and straight forward. Incrementally replace three days medical outreaches with health insurance policies for our people. Be blind to political party lines. We had #JariCare. You are putting down, N50million for bursary; #JariBurs. Oga, eliminate bursary committees, the committee members will chop at least a quarter of the money and load the list with cronies and acolytes and ask beneficiaries to return part of the money as kick back. Remove individual contact with cash for distribution. Use tech. Remain blind to party lines. Select the people through an unbiased process, across party and non-partisan lines. Be a leader with a large heart. Again, leave party out of it. I will help create a process that, though not perfect, but will ensure 500 people get their 100,000 neatly without stress. Not a dime will miss. I repeat, not one dime will miss. Verifiable data will then be provided and can be retrieved in seconds anytime it is needed.

Senator Jarigbe is not involved in the selection process. He is not sending us any name or requesting that we include any name on the list. I am also not personally interested in adding or squeezing any name into the list. Tech will do that. I can give other people a hundred thousand Naira too for their fees. We need to set a precedence in our Senatorial District, so others will copy. This process will not be perfect, but it will be better than what has been going on in the past and we will take feedback from this and improve on the next one. It is work for our people.

I requested that the Senator should give me and my team a manacle free environment to do our work. What you want is 500 students from Cross River North to get 100k. I will do that for you seamlessly and give you the verifiable data, after. Data that will remain useful for planning as time goes on. My biggest joy at the end of this will be, seeing the testimony of a poor student who is not in Senator Jarigbe’s party, who does not even know Senator Jarigbe, or not have or know anybody to call and lobby, but is very intelligent and could get this 100k assistance from a system that was blind and transparent.

So there is no amount of lobbying or pressure or messages to my inbox that will bulge this process. Stop wasting your time. Health care, education, provision of water etc, aren’t things that we will continue to play politics with. Majority of our people have suffered for too long and we need to take imperative interest in creating long term solutions to these basic problems. We need to eliminate corruption and thievery from these processes to capture more people who have nobody to call or lobby, into an inclusive society. I will continue on this path whenever my input is sought.

The electronic balloting system will be done in the presence of the Senator and his team. Beneficiaries will be published and I will ensure, as the Senator desires, that the 100k gets to all the 500 eligible students.

    Yours sincerely,
    Citizen Agba Jalingo.

  • Ogoja State Is On Track: Our People Deserve The Truth Not Misinformation – Jarigbe Agom

Ogoja State Is On Track: Our People Deserve The Truth Not Misinformation – Jarigbe Agom

    PRESS RELEASE FROM THE
OFFICE OF THE SENATOR REPRESENTING CROSS RIVER NORTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT

    Date: July 19, 2025

OGOJA STATE IS ON TRACK: OUR PEOPLE DESERVE THE TRUTH, NOT MISINFORMATION

Our attention has been drawn to concerns expressed by some constituents over the omission of Ogoja State from a recently circulated preliminary list of proposed states by the Constitution Review Committee of the Senate. We wish to assure our people that the pursuit for the creation of Ogoja State is very much alive, and firmly on track.

It is important that we provide clarity and educate the public on the legislative process involved in state creation, so that no one is misled or incited by ignorance or mischief.

The Bill for the creation of Ogoja State was sponsored by Hon. Godwin Offiono, a capable and committed representative in the House of Representatives. According to the established legislative procedure, a Bill for State creation cannot be concurrently sponsored in both chambers of the National Assembly. Once a Bill is initiated in one chamber — in this case, the House of Representatives, it must follow due process there and, upon successful passage, will be transmitted to the Senate for concurrence before the final reading and onward transmission for Presidential assent.

The fact that the Bill is not originating from the Senate does not in any way mean it is not progressing. The process is deliberate, legal, and grounded in the Constitution. Let us not substitute the discipline of lawmaking with political drama.

Let it be clear: we are not in the National Assembly to create superficial impressions or engage in fanfare. We are here to face realities, not to compete needlessly or commission non-existent projects. Our focus is to deliver real and tangible outcomes for our people, guided by law and principle.

Furthermore, the Public Hearing for the proposed Ogoja State, as part of the Constitution Review process, is scheduled to hold in Calabar under the auspices of the House of Representatives. This is in line with the legislative pathway the Bill must travel. The final list of proposed states, which will ultimately include Ogoja State, will be published upon completion of due processes.

Let us remain calm, united, and confident. Ogoja State is not just a proposal, it is a movement backed by history, merit, and growing national support. We must not allow misinformation to divide us or distract from the larger goal.

We are one family, bound by shared aspirations. We urge our people to continue to support the ongoing efforts and to trust the process.

  • Jarigbe Debunks Defection Rumor, Receives Hundreds Of Defectors In Bekwarra

Jarigbe Debunks Defection Rumor, Receives Hundreds Of Defectors In Bekwarra

    By Elijah Ugani

The Senator representation Cross River Northern Senatorial District, Sen Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, has debunked the rumours of his defection from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress.

Sen Jarigbe made the clarification during the town hall meeting with constituents held in Obudu, Bekwarra, Obanliku local government areas.

The lawmaker noted that if Tinubu and Bassey Otu had not stayed in the opposition, they would not have been president and governor today, and so he can not abandon the people and the platform that gave him their support and mandate to represent them.

In his words ‘It is true that there are some issues at the national level. But those issues are going to be resolved. The election is not tomorrow. The election is not next week. It is not next year.

“I don’t want us to distract ourselves with all of that. It’s time for governance. We have no excuse not to deliver. We want you to hold us accountable.

“Party politics is different, but I have to share a few things with you. There are issues surrounding who will be National Secretary and who will not be. But those issues will be resolved. There is nothing like PDP will not be able to file candidates.

“By the grace of God, I will be on the ballot. Nothing is going to stop you for voting for your son and the person you want. I want to correct an impression that I’m moving from this party. I’m not moving.

“If our president, President Tinibu, did not stay in opposition, he will not be president today. If our governor, Prince Otu, did not stay in opposition, he wouldn’t have been governor today. So nobody can come and coerce me and say that I must move to any party.

“In Obanliku, we chose one of your sons and sent him to the national assembly as member of the House of Representatives. Today there are insinuations that he says that there will be no tickets for us on the platform of PDP. Please, there will be tickets for us. If he wants to leave the party, it’s for personal reasons. I am not part of it.

“It wasn’t the name of any party that voted for us. The people that voted for us are seated here. We will go by your decision and not the decision of anybody in Abuja or Calabar”.

The lawmaker explained that it was very necessary for him to interface with the people whose mandate he holds to give account of his stewardship for the period of two years in the 10th assembly, and also to have the opportunity to be accessed by his people. He further charged the people to draw his attention to areas of concern where he needs to focus on in the next two years.

Sen Jarigbe listed projects he facilitated in each of the ten wards of the three Local Government Areas he visited including the electrification of Gakem to Abuochiche, Bekwarra Local Government Area and construction of Amukwong bridge, Alege, Alege/Ubang ward in Obudu Local Government Area which are ongoing.

He used the opportunity to thank his constituents for the support and steadfastness demonstrated and pledged to always put first the interest of his constituents.

Speaking earlier during the town hall meetings held at various locations in Obanliku, Obudu and Bekwarra Local Government Areas, the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Cross River State chapter, Mr Vena Ikem Esq, noted that “Globally, it is a common practice for representatives to hold town hall meetings periodically to enable them meet with their constituents as to get feedback to enable them improve their representation.

“Very recently, I have witnessed where representatives where booed by their constituents on account of their failed representation.

“Please do not hesitate to tell your senator where he has not done well to enable him serve you better. Where he has done well, please don’t forget to commend him as that will definitely encourage him to do more”.

Leaders and stakeholders of the three local governments took turns to commend the uncommon representation of Sen Jarigbe Agom, and noted that they have not had it this easy with any senator since 1999.

In Obanliku, principal among the things mentioned that requires the senator’s attention was the Kakwe road .

In Obudu, the people called on Sen Jarigbe Agom to lobby for federal appointments for the youths, noting that the youths are roaming the streets with qualified certificates with no one in sight to assist them get jobs. They argue that Obudu youths deserve to also occupy positions in Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation NNPC, Federal Inland Revenue Services and others.

In Bekwarra, the people commended Sen Jarigbe Agom, to have facilitated federal government scholarship for three of their sons who are currently abroad on studies.
They requested the senator to give their youths Jobs and to see to the completion of the electrification project, which worries every Bekwarra person.

The people of Bekwarra assured Sen Jarigbe Agom, of their unflinching support even beyond 2027 and referred to the coercion by the All Progressive Congress to silence other parties as a failed project. They posited that the APC should coerce the prices of commodities in the market to crash so that the common people can live averagely. And that unless that is done, whatever some of the leaders who were given opportunities on the plater of gold, but failed to utilize it, are wasting their time as majority of the Bekwarra people will continue to support the good work Sen Jarigbe is doing.

During the town hall meeting at Bekwarra, the All Progressive Congress Chapter Secretary, Mr Joe Okpen Adams, Ayade’s former aide, Odama Groovydee Abednigo Oga, led hundreds of APC faithfuls to the PDP and cited Sen Jarigbe Agom’s leadership prowess and service to the people as the basis for their defection. They used the opportunity and declared support for the lawmaker and the party.

The were received into the party by the chapter Chairman of the PDP, and encouraged by the state Chairman, Barr Vena Ikem Esq.

Sen Jarigbe Agom commended their bold step to join the PDP and noted that the move was natural and organic as the PDP has nothing to coerce or to use as a tool to lure anyone to join the party.

Leadership That Resonates: The Impact of Senator Agom Jarigbe’s Town Hall Meetings BY OKOI OBONO-OBLA

I have been closely following the town hall meetings convened by Senator Agom Jarigbe, representing Cross River Northern Senatorial District in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. These gatherings serve as a platform for his constituents to stay informed about his activities since his inauguration in 2023. What has struck me most is the overwhelming turnout of enthusiastic constituents who thronged the various town halls in large numbers—a genuine demonstration of the love and support they have for their Senator. Unlike the usual political rallies where crowds are sometimes bought or hired, these attendees are genuinely eager to connect with a leader who has established a strong rapport with them and who has been delivering effectively.

I must admit, I am green with envy. How I wish Senator Jarigbe were in my party! Unfortunately, the senators from my party in Cross River State, through hubris and arrogance, have failed to build any real connection with their constituents. They lack the ability to engage the people meaningfully, let alone organize such impactful town hall meetings. This is a stark contrast to Senator Jarigbe’s approach. His actions reaffirm the fundamental principle that true leadership cannot be faked—one cannot give what one does not possess. Leadership is a natural gift, and pseudo-leaders, lacking the charisma and empathy required, will always struggle to resonate with the people.

However, there is one aspect of Senator Jarigbe’s town hall meetings that does not sit well with me—his ability to use his electrifying charm to attract notable figures to his party, including my good friend and fellow alumnus, Professor Zana Akpagu. While I am disappointed by this political maneuvering, I must admit that it speaks volumes about Senator Jarigbe’s influence. His ability to draw competent individuals into his party—one that has been struggling nationally—underscores his status as a crowd-puller and a leader who understands the importance of surrounding himself with strong minds. It is an ability that senators from my party sorely lack.

Ultimately, Senator Agom Jarigbe’s town hall meetings reflect the kind of politics Nigeria needs—leadership built on genuine connections, openness, and the ability to inspire trust among the people. He is setting a standard that others should aspire to, and his approach to governance is one that should not be ignored.

  • Towards an Informed Citizenry: Senator Jarigbe’s Indaba Model BY OGAR EMMANUEL

Towards an Informed Citizenry: Senator Jarigbe’s Indaba Model BY OGAR EMMANUEL

Sen Jarigbe Agom’s initiative to convene town hall meetings in all the Local Government Areas within the Cross River Northern Senatorial District underscores a pivotal step toward enhancing democratic engagement and responsive legislative governance. Such forums are instrumental in bridging the gap between elected officials and their constituents, thereby fostering a participatory political environment.

The significance and importance of these town hall meetings cannot be overemphasized. One key benefit is that they enhance transparency and accountability. They provide constituents with the latitude and platform to directly engage with their representatives. The relationship between the governed and their representatives is bound by the tenets of the social contract, which encompasses participatory governance and other democratic ideals. These forums create room for open dialogue, where constituents can offer suggestions and contribute meaningfully to national discourse.

This forthcoming town hall meeting, if I may suggest, should henceforth be made a regular occurrence. A recurring indaba—as the Nguni leaders of South Africa call their tribal conferences or town hall meetings—serves as a veritable reinforcement of democratic institutions. In the long run, it promotes civic participation. Beyond that, it offers a mechanism for continuous feedback, provides opportunities to clarify government policies, dispel misconceptions, and cultivate a more informed citizenry—essential ingredients for the evolution and strengthening of democratic practices.

In a nutshell, Senator Jarigbe Agom’s town hall meetings are a commendable effort toward inclusive governance. He deserves accolades for proposing such meetings in all five LGAs. In the past, such gatherings were often held only in Obudu or Ogoja—sometimes only in Ogoja. Constituents from Obanliku, Bekwarra, and Yala had to travel long distances to participate. Therefore, an indaba of this nature not only provides a platform for constituents to express their views but also enables the senator to make more informed decisions that resonate with the needs of the community. Such initiatives are fundamental to nurturing a vibrant and participatory democracy.

SUGGESTION: Interpreters should be provided, and people should be encouraged to express themselves in their local dialects. A position paper or communiqué should be produced from the indaba. Participants should eschew servile flattery— but bare their minds. Furthermore, a vote of confidence and endorsement for another term should be passed in his favour.
