    Breaking: Mathias Amunde, Who Killed His Mother, Has Been Apprehended

    The 29 years old Mathias Amunde Ugwe, who is reportedly alleged to have taken the life of his biological mother, Mrs Justina Amunde, now late in the early hours of Christmas 25th December 2025, has been apprehended and currently cooling his feet at the Obudu Divisional Headquarters of the Nigerian Police Force.

    A combined team of the IPO, SA Security to Obudu Local Government Chairman, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Obudu Chapter, and men of the Nigerian Police Force, Batriko in Eastern Boki Local Government Area, led the arrest of the suspect.

    An anonymous source hinted TheLumineNews that the victim, late Mrs Justina Amunde, was murdered and her hair barbed for rituals. The combined team also apprehended the ritualist who instructed the suspect to barb his mother’s hair and brought to him, they are both in the police custody.

    The person that assisted the suspect to dump the victim’s coprs in the well, is still at large.

    Recall the TheLumineNews, had reported that Mathias Amunde Ugwe, is alleged to have killed his mother and dumped her corps in the well and has been at large since December 25th 2024.

    The two suspects are yet to make statements.

    As at the time of filing this report, efforts to get the Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo to comment on the development failed as calls to her phone number were not connected.

    Two persons have been arrested by the police in Cross River over the abduction of the wife of a car dealer, Mrs. Aliu in Calabar.

    CONVERSEER reports that Mrs. Aliu was kidnapped in October by the gang who collected a ransom from her husband before being released.

    However, the kidnappers met their waterloo after the officers of the Anti Cultism and Kidnapping Squad aka Dragon Squad led by SP Chukwuma Ogini tracked them via the account number they used in receiving the ransom.

    SP Irene Igbo, police spokesperson in the state while confirming the development said the Dragon Squad, a tactical unit of the police, had been on the trail of the owner of the account used for the transaction and arrested him.

    She said, “The victim is the wife of a popular car dealer in Calabar who was kidnapped on 27 October 2023, and they used an unsuspecting individual account to receive the ransom.

    “The suspects didn’t know that they were being trailed by the Dragon Squad. We are happy that two out of four of them have been apprehended.

    “Locally made pistols, ammunition, phones and other valuable items were recovered from them.

    “They have also made confessional statements on their involvement in the abduction of the woman. They will be charged to court as soon as we conclude the investigation.”

    SP Ugbo advised members of the public to be mindful of who they give their private information, especially bank details, as it might land them in trouble when used to commit a crime.

    Operatives of the Cross River State Police Command uncovered an Improvised Explosives Device (IED) and gun manufacturing factory, on Wednesday, at Osomba Community in Akamkpa Local government Area of the State, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects.

    The Operation was led by Commander, Anti Cultism and Kidnapping Squad, ACKS, (Dragon Squad) SP Ogini Chukwuma on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogo Grimah.

    Findings by Vanguard showed that police recovered remote-controlled IEDs, detonators, other explosive devices, several automatic weapons, dozens of locally made double barrels, and pistols while nine suspects were arrested including bomb makers.

    When contacted, the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo who confirmed the development said that nine persons have been arrested and were now in their custody.

    She noted that even a notorious gangster, armed robbery suspect simply identified as Orok Etim a.k.a Gowon is equally in their custody.

    The following items were recovered according to SP Irene Ugbo: explosive devices (High explosives 90M) 8 pieces, 60M 6 pieces, Detonator 10 pieces and Indicators 15 pieces as well as 10 pieces of remotes devices and 10 pieces of battery as power source.

    Other items recovered include; G3 automatic machine gun 2 pieces, 3 pump actions, MAC 4 automatic rifles 5 pieces, 5 locally fabricated pistols, LAR rifle, a fabricated revolver, a locally beretta Pistol, 650 rounds of 7.6×51 LAR ammunition 29 rounds of 7.62×39 AK-47 AMMUNITION X 70 pieces of cartridges amongst others.

    A 33-year-old woman, Olufumilayo Eriolowa, who was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly assaulting a police officer, Olufowobi Nureni, at the Ogombo area of Lagos State, has been freed of all the charges.

    Eriolowa, who had been remanded in custody since May 17, 2023, was freed by Magistrate M. O. Alao of the Magistrates’ Court in Eti-Osa, Lagos, after the case was struck out.

    The PUNCH had reported that the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a post on Twitter, revealed that was remanded for allegedly assaulting a policeman in the state.

    The post read, “Somewhere in Ogombo yesterday, she assaulted a police officer. She was arraigned today and has been remanded to the Kirikiri correctional facility till June 6 when the case comes up again in court.”

    Earlier, the hair stylist was arraigned before Magistrate M. O. Alao on two counts bordering on assault and resisting arrest at the Magistrate Court of Lagos, Eti-Osa.

    The police prosecutor, Jacob Samuel, during her arraignment, prayed to the court to remand the defendant in police custody.

    Granting the request, Alao ordered that Eriolowa be remanded for 21 days in police custody pending the completion of the police investigation.

    The charges read in part, “That you, Olufumilayo Erioluwa, on May 14, 2023, around 9pm, at Ajah, Eti-Osa, in the Lagos Magistrate District, did commit a felony with a serious assault on one Olufowobi Nureni, an Inspector and hereby commit an offence under Section 174 Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    “That you, Olufumilayo Erioluwa, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, assaulted, resisted, obstructed and unlawfully prevented one Olufowobi Nureni, an Inspector attach to the Ogombo Divisional Headquarters, in the course of executing his lawful and official duty and thereby committed an offence punishable Under Section 174 (b) (c) and (e) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.”

    Eriolowa, however, pleaded not guilty to the accusations and the case was adjourned till June 6, 2023.

    Meanwhile, a rights activist, Inibehe Effiong and his team took over Eriolowa’s case.

    According to Effiong, the police could not produce a witness, and the complainant in court, adding that the Kirikiri Correctional Center did not also produce Eriolowa in court.

    He said, “On June 6 when the case came up a second time, my team and I were able to secure bail for her. She was admitted to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.”

    Effiong explained that they were working on perfecting her bail terms when the case was struck out.

    He said, “The complainant, Olufowobi Nureni, who claimed he was assaulted, did not show up in court for all the times the case was in court. The Kirikiri Correctional Centre did not also produce her in court, and the case was adjourned a third time till June 27, 2023.

    “We had however taken steps to perfect the bail before the charge was struck out. The police could not provide any evidence, witness, or complainant in court and so we pleaded that the case be struck out and the Magistrate saw reason with us and did the right thing according to the law. She is freed and discharged and the charges against her have been struck out on June 27, 2023.”

    A notorious gangster cum kidnapper Kufre (other names yet to be verified) AKA Romance has been arrested by men of the Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad of the Nigeria Police, Cross River State Command.

    Sources within the Police informed our newsroom that the arrest was made today’s evening (Tuesday) after a gun battle that lasted for minutes.

    He was arrested at the borrow pit behind the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS).

    The operation was led by the Commander of the Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad, SP Ogini Chukwuma, and his men.

    He has so far confessed to several kidnappings involving lecturers, medical doctors, Abonima’s wife, a journalist’s wife, and many more.

    He also confessed to two killings – Dede and Papa both in 2020.

    He has been on the Police wanted list for years, he has lost many of his boys to the bullets of Policemen in the course of sniffing him out.

    The Cross River Police Command has assured the management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) of organising security training on combat and mental alertness for the Institution’s security personnel on campus.

    Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Aminu Alhassan, gave the assurance in Calabar when the Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of UNICAL Governing Council, Gen. Martin Luther-Agwai (Rtd) led other Council Members of the University on a courtesy call to the office of the Commissioner.

    Alhassan said that the University and the Police Command enjoys a cordial working relationship that should be sustained through peaceful co-existence.

    He told the team from UNICAL that the command will enhance operational efficiency of the police post on campus with a view to always respond to cases of emergency on time.

    “I want to assure you of the state command’s support and collaboration in maintaining a peaceful environment for both students and staff.

    “We are also going to train some of our personnel with a view to impact the needed security tips and knowledge on campus policing.

    “The University is a place for research and teaching, we will do our best to maintain our presence there always,” he assured.

    Earlier, Luther-Agwai told the CP that he was in his office on a familiarisation visit and to thank the command for their support to the university.

    He charged the Police Commissioner to organise training courses for its personnel on campus for optimal combat and mental alertness.

    “We have come here as a council to seek your continues support and collaboration in maintaining peace and orderliness in UNICAL.

    “We thank the Nigerian Police for all they have done in securing the University of Calabar community. But, we want to ask for more of their presence on campus,” he said.

    Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Florence Obi, thanked the Command for always responding to the management calls whenever there were cases of insecurity on campus.

    She assured the CP that the university would continue to partner with the police on all its activities.
