    Hosted by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Cross River State Chapter

    Venue: NUJ Press Centre, Calabar, Cross River State.

     

    Gentlemen of the press, distinguished guests, and fellow youth of Cross River State.

    1. We are honored to welcome you to this World Press Conference organized by the Cross River State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), as the apex body of all Youth organizations in Nigeria, We stand here united and committed to the development of our communities and the advancement of local governance and our dear State Cross River and Nigeria at large.

    2. Firstly, we extend our sincere gratitude to the Federal Government of Nigeria for granting autonomy to Local Governments across the nation. This decision is a historic step toward empowering local communities, ensuring that resources reach the grassroots, and allowing local governments to function more independently. We believe that this autonomy will play a pivotal role in fostering transparency, inclusivity, and rapid community development.

    3. We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the Governor of Cross River State, for his commitment to the advancement of democratic processes. Under his leadership, the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) has set the stage for the forthcoming Local Government Elections scheduled for November 2, 2024. This action reflects the State Government’s dedication to strengthening democracy and promoting good governance at the local level.

    4. We appeal to all Stakeholders to take advantage of this opportunity to participate and support the Local Government Administration being put in place through an election, hence election should hold on November 2nd, 2024 as scheduled and the will of the people should prevail. As a youth community we say a vehement no to any individual or group with retrogressive intentions, such individual or group MUST have a change of plan in the interest of the State.

    5. The NYCN As critical stakeholder, appeal that as the LG administration is constituted, there should be deliberate plans for more YOUTH INCLUSION in terms of appointments into the Local Governments and deliberate efforts should be made to invest into Youth Development, entrepreneurship opportunities, education and the general Development of our communities.

    6. Furthermore, we commend all participating political parties in the November 2, LG elections, for their progressive and inclusive approach, as evidenced by their decision to nominate and present their tickets to youth and further more providing a level playing field for all. This bold move not only recognizes the potential of young leaders but also builds a foundation for sustainable leadership that reflects the aspirations of the youth in Cross River State. We urge these young candidates to carry the responsibility of their roles with passion, integrity, vision, and dedication to the community.

    7. To all the youths in Cross River State, we call on you to participate actively and responsibly in the upcoming elections. Your involvement is crucial to ensuring that our voices are heard and that our aspirations are reflected in the outcomes. Let us all play our part in building a future that benefits everyone, fostering an environment of inclusivity and mutual respect and overall Development. Even much more, we MUST concern ourselves with all that is happening in our various communities going forward.

    8. The NYCN, however, sounds a strong warning to anyone who might intend to disrupt the peace and order during the election period. We urge such individuals to abandon any plans that might jeopardize the democratic process. The NYCN stands firm in its commitment to see that LGA election is peaceful, transparent, and credible.

    9. We urge the security agencies and all relevant stakeholders to ensure that election is conducted under a peaceful atmosphere and to be vigilant and ensure that lives and properties are safe guarded before, during and after the elections.

    10. We urge all those will will emerge as Leaders of our Local Government to lead with the FEAR OF GOD and ensure the utilization of funds that will be available for the all round development of our communities in support to what the State Government is doing to better Cross River State.

    11. We urge all our Members in the 196 wards to participate actively and support all that will lead to a successful elections come November, 2, 2024.

    12. We appeal passionately that all our Local Government Co-ordinators should be considered at the Local Government Areas as Partners in community peace building and should be adequately captured in the scheme of things.

    13. As the Apex body of youths in Nigeria, we call on all saddled with the responsibility to fix our Federal Roads in Cross River State to swing into action without further delay. We thank His Excellency Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu for expressly directing that remedial work be done on the said roads all to ameliorating the difficulty faced by the people.

    14. Finally, we extend our gratitude to the security agencies in Cross River State. We trust in their professionalism and commitment to maintaining the peace. We implore them to be vigilant and proactive in dealing with any disruptions. We call on them to uphold the law by taking swift action against anyone attempting to cause trouble in any of our local government areas before, during and after the elections.

    Thank you, everyone, for your attention and support. Together, let us work towards a successful election on November 2, 2024, that will set a positive example for our state and our nation.

    The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Cross River State chapter wishes to extend hearty congratulations to flag bearers of political parties in the State, for their victories that have lead to their emergence as flag bearers of their parties.

    Indeed your victory is worth celebrating as it is a testament of your hard work, dedication and tenaciousness for the growth of the party which you have overtimes maintained, and have earned you the confidence and love of your party leadership and members.

    We also express our deepest gratitude to the leadership of the political parties for giving young people with sodding leadership charisma, the opportunity to represent, serve their people and contribute their industry and positive causative abilities to the refinement and remarkable development of their different local Government areas and governance in the State.

    The council assures all candidates of consummate support of the entire youth of Cross River State during and after the elections as we continue to work together in unity, sound mind and enthusiasm to drive the process of achieving a better and prosperous Cross River State.

    The council also appeal to soon to be Chairmen and councillors of local Government council to please continue to have the interest of young people at heart and ensure their inclusion in your programmes, through empowerments,giving them opportunities to serve and helping them to attain their dreams.

    CRS NYCN Donates Writing Materials To Pupils At Adiabo, Odukpani LGA To Mark Gov Otu 65th Birth Anniversary

     

    The Executive and members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in the State led by the Chairman, His Youthfulness Obol Comr.Emmanuel Olayi, yesterday celebrated the 65th birthday of His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State with a launching of an Education support programme which commenced it’s reach out with the pupil of St.Patrick primary school Adiabo Odukpani Local Government Area. The back to school project is an initiative of the Odukpani Local Government Chapter of NYCN ably led by Bassey Williams and with the full endorsement and support of the State Council.

    In his address at the school premises, the NYCN Local Government Co-ordinator of Odukpani, Comr. Bassey Williams who hosted his colleagues, applauded the state Chairman Comr. Olayi for restructuring and bringing refinement to the council which poses a better future for the youths of Cross River State. Said the Education support programme is meant to support the pupil and low income earning parents towards the training of their wards, while he encouraged the pupil to be Steadfast in their academic activities as the future of the Nation lies on them.

    Also speaking, the former State Chairman of NYCN, Comr. Ndiyo Ndiyo applauded the efforts of the Odukpani leadership of the Council, stated that the best way to invest is to invest on the young ones who are aspiring leaders of the future. Assured the council of his timeless support.

    The State Chairman, Comr. Emmanuel Olayi described the education support programme as laudable, appraised the thoughtfulness of the Odukpani coordinator and his executive for initiating a project that contributes to developing their children, added that as a purpose driven person that he is, he would love the project to be replicated in all schools located in the thirteen council wards of Odukpani local Government area.

    His Youthfulness also emphasized that, as young people it is important to support and celebrate leaders, as the flag off of the educational support programme is used to celebrate the 65th Birthday of the Governor of Cross River State, a man who’s leadership has vastly developed the State and her people. He prayed to God to grant Governor Bassey Otu wisdom and strength to lead Cross River State aright.

    Part of event to mark the Governor’s birthday was the cutting of a birthday cake with the staff and pupil of the school, presentation of exercise books and other items to the teachers and pupil of the school.

    The Chairman Comr. Emmanuel Olayi, after the outreach at Adiabo, led his team of Executives and other leaders to the private residence of the Governor were he presented a giant birthday Cake to His Excellency on behalf of the Youth of Cross River State.

    Present at the event was, the NYCN State Chairman and his executive, local Government coordinators, appointees of the chairman, union leaders of tertiary institutions and members of voluntary youth organizations.

    The youths of Obudu took the street to protest the unjustly killing of an innocent fifteen years boy by the members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN, who was reported by his father on the guise of having stolen his ten thousand naira.

    The youths barricaded Ogoja road the major road in Obudu the late hours of Saturday, 7th October, 2020 to register their displeasure over the killing of the innocent boy.

    According to our source, Mr. George Abetianbe “The whole Streets of Ogoja Road in obudu was filled with young men and women today protesting the unlawful killing of a young boy carried out by the Obudu youth council alleged to have stolen from the father the sum of ten thousand naira, and the father as a way of reprimand, handed over the boy to the Obudu youth council to take disciplinary measures which resulted to death after incessant beatings and manhandling.

    “Presently this has caused tension as boys are every where looking for members of the youth council. Some have began destroying properties suspected to belong to members of the youth council.

    “Just like the #EndSARS degenerated to something else in Lagos, Calabar, Abakeliki and so forth, this may follow the same path seeing many aggrieved already.

    “I have also gathered that two persons are dead already as they engaged in physical confrontation with the youth council at their hide outs”

    Fidelis Ishoja took to his verified Facebook page, @Fioe Castro to express his grief over the burning of their house when they are not connected to the youth council.

    His words “This act is barbaric, how on earth will you set our innocent house ablaze when we neither know or have anything to do with Obudu Youth Council. God will never forgive anybody involved in this act”

    Fifteen Years Boy Beaten To Death By National Youth Council, Obudu.

    A yet to be identified boy, age fifteen is beaten to death this evening by the members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State.

    The Lumine News learnt that the boys guardian reported a missing sum of money to the council where the innocent boy was suspected to have stolen the money.

    According to our source, the boy was beaten to death with the malicious intent to coerce the boy to admit to the theft.

    A development according to reports that has led to the killing of two other persons in the Obudu main town causing chaos and social malady according to our source.

    When contacted council Chairman, Mr. Boniface Ewhe confirmed the killing of the innocent boy as well as the unrest in Obudu following the death of the boy.

    Eraye confirmed the proscription of the National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN, Obudu Chapter and he is making adequate arrangement to deploy men from the Brigadier Godwin A. Ally military cantonment to restore peace as at the time of filling this report.

    The Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Mr. Boniface Ewhe has proscribed the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Obudu Chapter.

    The proscription comes on the heels of a fifteen years boy accused of stealing money which led to his death by members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Obudu Chapter.

    In a release signed by the Chairman and made available to theluminenews, investigation has commence into the ugly and barbaric situation, and all those involved would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

    The release reads in full:
    “Press Release.

    “The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYSC), Obudu Chapter is hereby proscribed. This is sequel to the unacceptable manner in which a suspected fifteen years old boy accused of stealing was beaten to death in Obudu by overzealous members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Obudu Chapter.

    “I urge the public to remain calm, law abiding and cease to relate with any person or group of persons as NYCN, as the police commences thorough investigation into the unfortunate incident.

    “Be rest assured that all the people involved in this barbaric act will be made to face the full weight of the law.

    “Meanwhile, people with useful information are encouraged to provide same to the police to aid investigation.
