    Beyond Limits FC Beats Central Stars FC To Win Comrade Odey Adamade Football Tournament

    There was excitement in Obudu town today September 6th 2024, as Beyond Limits FC of Obudu defeated the Central Stars of Utugwang in the final tournament to win the 2024 and the 11th edition of Comrade Odey Adamade football tournament.

    The tournament which ended in a four goals to one in favor of Beyond Limits FC of Obudu amidst cheers witnessed a large turnout of supporters.

    The tournament had two groups where Beyond Limits FC was rated best team among 12 teams that registered and participated in the tournament and qualified for the final.

    Central Stars FC of Utugwang came first among 10 teams from group 2 and qualified for the final.

    The third place position was played by Adida FC of Obanliku and Achiibi FC Kigbor of Ukpe, in a three goals to nill, that ended in favor of Adida FC.

    The novelty foot ball match was played by ex-students of Government Secondary School, Obudu of 1994 and 1995 set code named G’95 and G’94, that ended a goalless draw.

    The event was chaired by a former Obudu Local Government Council Chairman, Hon Emmanuel Ugbe, who used the opportunity to commend the organizer of the tournament, Comrade Odey Adamade, for the initiative and tasked the winners and other teams that participated in the tournament to see their involvement as a stepping stone in the football career.

    The following awards were presented to deserving players and teams.

    Best goalkeeper – Joe Heart
    Second Best goalkeeper – Abraham Adamade
    Best Referee – Elias Adie
    Highest Goal scorer – Bobo Jude (16 goals)
    Second highest scorer – Christian Ekunke (11 goals)

    Third runner-up – Achibi FC Kigbor of Ukpe, medals, trophy and a cash of #200,000.00 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) only.

    Second runner-up – Adidas FC of Obanliku, medals, trophy and cash of #300,000.00 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira) only.

    First runner-up – Central Stars of Utugwang, medals, trophy and a cash of #500,000.00 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) only.

    Winer – Beyond Limits FC of Obudu, medals, trophy and a cash of #600,000.00 (Six Hundred Thousand Naira) only.

    Speaking to TheLumineNews, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Mr David Undeshi, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of over 22 teams that registered and participated in the 11th edition of the tournament and pledged a better outing in the next edition. He commended the cooperation and support of members of the local organizing committee.

    He used the opportunity to restate the commitment of the organizer, Comrade Odey Adamade, to harnessing the potentials of the youths of Obudu using football.
    He thanked the contribution of the G’95 class of Government Secondary School, Obudu for their outstanding support and wished everyone a happy 2024 Obudu new yam festival.

    11th Edition Of Comr Odey Adamade Unity Cup, 24 Teams Set To Lock Horns

    No fewer than 24 teams are set to lock horn in the ongoing tournament of the 11th edition of comr Odey Adamade Unity Cup.

    The Coordinator of the tournament, Mr Mayor Undeshi, disclosed that “11 years ago, Comr Odey Adamade, conceived the idea of the tournament to reduce the rate of cultism and other social vices engaged by youths of Obudu, and decided to initiate the tournament which have successfully engaged and kept the youths busy throughout this period”.

    Mr Undeshi disclosed that the kick off of the tournament was done by Rev Fr Silverus Ulem, featured Academy FC verses Bekpam FC, which ended in a 2:2 draw.

    The tournament which is scheduled to hold simultaneously in two centres, Chief JA Agba Memorial Stadium, Obudu and St Colman’s Primary School, Utugwang, will produce two best team and. The two teams from each of the centres will play to determine the best to play the final.

    Mr Undeshi who described the tournament as an open tournament, hinted that interested teams from neighboring local governments and states can participate in the tournament. He disclosed that two teams from Obanliku, Adida FC and Hills FC are currently participating in the tournament.

    The Coordinator disclosed that the final will hold on the 6th of September, 2014 which is the eve of Obudu New Yam festival.

    Mr Undeshi commended the resilience of the initiator of the tournament, Comr Odey Adamade , and used the opportunity to call on both the government and spirited individuals to consider partnering with the initiator, to ensure that his dream and goodwill for the youths is realized.

    Speaking with the captain of Bekpam FC, Mr John Udama, he expressed satisfaction with the organization of the tournament having participated in the tournament for three years now. He noted that his skills has been drastically improved and wished that he could have the opportunity to participate in bigger tournaments that will expose him to the world where his career in football could be advanced.

    Another player, Mr Pius Ugbong of Academy FC, told TheLumineNews that he has participated in seven different editions, described the tournament as very successful having grown to the level it currently operate.

    Mr Ugbong said his dream is to see himself and other participants display their talents in both national and international fora stated that, “My joy will be complete when some of the boys are sent out of this country. It is my desire that the officials of the tournament sees the players aa partners in this tournament”.

    A former International Football Icon and former Super Eagle Coach, Mr. Sampson Siasia has stated that his coming to Obudu is to enable him and his team to identify talents in young people and assist them gets to the next level of football.

    Coach Saisia made known today, September 4th, 2020 at the Obudu Township stadium during the finals of the 7th edition of Comrade Odey Adamade Football tournament.

    In his words “We have to come here today because this is the finals, in events like this, we identify young talents and assist them gets to the next level. That goalkeeper is extremely good.

    “I want to thank Comr. Adamade who made it possible for us to be here. Worthy of note is the fact that all of you have come out massively to be part of this event. We hope to come back here.

    “Football is way of bringing people together and I can see smiles on your faces, to the Chiefs who have waited patiently from the beginning of the match to now, I must commend them, thank you very much for coming.

    “The reception we have right from when we came till now, is being something else, thank you all for your hospitality”

    A member of Coach Siasia’s technical crew, Mr. Elvis Abu, commended the efforts of the organizer of the tournament and posited that the trip was worthwhile.

    Mr. Abu promised to support the efforts made by Barr. Adamade to organize the tournament and pledged his commitment to the organization of the eight edition of the tournament with specific attention to areas that need to improved upon.

    On his part, the organizer of the tournament, Barr. Odey Adamade, was visibly elated to have Coach Sampson honor his invitation to grace the finals of his tournament with the view to identify young and upcoming talents to assist them get to the next level.

    Adamade stated that “my joy is to see any of these youth wear Arsenal, Liver Pool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid or any club jersey as a player in that team, at least the player must remember that this tournament gave him the platform and spring board to get to the zenith of his career.

    “It might interest you to note that some people spent a lot to get Coach Siasia do the assignment he has come here to do. But it might interest you to know that I didn’t spend anything for him to come here. I only went to him and requested him to come, and he obliged. I’m indeed honor to have him here and I want to say that as has said some persons have been identified, I will discuss the logistics that is required to get them to the national team and ensure that I provide same”

    Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers council, the Chairman of Urban Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Highness Utsu Ezekiel thanked Coach Sampson Siasia for finding time to grace the occasion despites his very tight schedules, and prayed for the enabling opportunities to get some of the youths who have been identified in the tournament to feature in the national team, so that the youths will be more committed in the game of football with the believe that theirs is the turn next, and this will reduce the rate of crime in our society.

    He used the opportunity to thank Barr. Adamade for the steadfastness in the past seven years and asked God to grant him the strength and resources to unite the youths in Obudu.

    The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Mr. David Undeshi also known as Mayor, said courage and the zeal to set records has sustain the momentum over the last seven years and maintained that at seven, the organizing committee is about to set the space for others to follow.

    The finals was played by the Academy Football Club of Obudu and Begiaka Football Club. The match ended in a 1 – 1 draw, had Begiaka won a 3 – 0 penalty shoot out, making the team winning back to back.

    The event futred presentation of goal medals to selected and deserving invited guests. Principal among them were Coach Sampson Siasia, Mr. Elvis Abu and Arct. Eric Akpo.

    Special recognition was given to best coach, highest goal scorer, best team, best goalkeeper among others.

    The former Super Eagles Coach, Samson Siasia is set to appear as a guest of honour in the final stages of Odey Adamamde Unity cup tournament.

    The former Nigerian international coach would be accompanied by two registered FIFA scouts to the tournament to unearth talents.

    Speaking to TheLumineNews, the Sponsor of the competition, Barr. Odey Adamade said that the highly respected Coach would be in Obudu from Wednesday September 2nd to Friday, 4th during the knockout stages to the final of the tournament.

    Barr. Adamade maintained that “It was my dream that I use the opportunity that will be crested by the circumstance of the tournament to unearth talents and see how we can harness, showcase and project these talents to the global world.

    “I want to watch Obudu sons play in the National team as well play for other clubs that we spend money daily to watch.

    “I’m pleased to have former Coach Siasia to grace the finals of my tournament, it promises to be interesting. I wnat to use this medium to invite friends and well wishers to be part of this epoch making event”

    When contacted, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committe, Undeshi David said that “We agreed with Samson Siasia to be in Obudu from Wednesday to Saturday for Comrade Odey Adamade Unity Cup 2020 finals.

    “Everything was sealed and dusted. He is coming with two FIFA registered scouts and agents to unearth talents. Nigeria is blessed with so much talent wasting at local levels.

    “We have continually said that beyond using the tournament to unite our people, we also have another core objective of trying to encourage our young talents with interest in football into Professionals.

    “One of the big steps we’ve taken to achieving this is to involve experienced people with wide contacts like Saisa to help link them up to football academics and clubs to pursue career in football”.

    The tournament is an annual football tournament played in Obudu to commemorate the famous Obudu new yam festival.

    The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of Odey Adamade Unity football tournament, Mr. David Undeshi Ugar, has stated that the essence of the tournament is to bring young people together as well as create opportunity for Young people who have interest in football to discover their talents.

    Udeshi disclosed this to TheLuminrNews in a telephone chat as the 7th edition of the tournament kicks off with a match between the Golden Stars Academy and Team Honour FC on the 15th of August, 2020.

    His words “The essence of the competition is to bring young people together as well as create opportunity for Young people with interest in football to discover their talents.

    “I want to thank the initiator and sponsor of this tournament, Barr. Odey Adamade for this initiative, he has in no small measure added beauty and fun to the Obudu local government annual new yam festival which comes up every first Saturday, and has painstakingly organized this tournament for the past seven years uninterruptedly.

    “Since inception, the tournament has been packed with packed with series of actions and this year won’t be exception”

    Undeshi who popularly known and called Mayor noted that the final competition will be played on the 4th of September, 2020 the eve of Obudu new yam festival at the Obudu Township stadium, where clubs and individuals will presented with awards.

    Categories of the awards to be presented according to the LOC chairman include but not limited to: Best team (winner of the tournament), second and third place, best coach, well behaved team, best goal keeper among others.

    The event will be wrapped up with a visit to the Joint National Association of Persons with disabilities JONAP, Obudu branch.
