  • NEPZA MD Visits C’River Deputy Governor, Lauds Gov Otu’s Achievements In The State

     

    The Managing Director (MD) of Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), Dr Olufemi Ogunyemi and his team, on Thursday, paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, in Government House, Calabar.

    During his opening statements, Dr. Ogunyemi conveyed the warm regards of the Honourable Minister of Trade and Investment. He expressed satisfaction with the significant progress achieved by Governor Bassey Otu’s administration in various development sectors within just a few months in office, emphasizing that “Governor Otu has performed admirably.”

    He listed the prompt payments of salaries of civil servants and pensioners, approve use of concrete for road construction, installation of solar powered street lights across the three Senatorial District of the State, lifting bans on wood logging, which according to him has revitalized the wood industry, ongoing building of fruit arcade and hosting the biggest street party in Africa and much more. According to the MD, “All these achievements and more are possible because your adminstration undertook bold steps to reduce the customary problems and mobilize resources to achieve the ‘Peoples First’ projects in line with the ‘Renewed Hope’ Mantra of Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”

    Ogunyemi, speaking further, said NEPZA and the Calabar Free Trade Zone are determined to give this government the needed support within the ambit of the law that established Free Trade Zones in Nigeria to ensure a prosperous tenure for the present administration.

    In the area of Corporate Social Responsibility, Dr. Ogunyemi said NEPZA had built and donated several equipment to University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Police Station, Technical Schools, donation of satellite communication equipment, installation of 33KVA transformer in their host Community, award of scholarships to indigent students in the state amongst others.

    While appealing to state government to take advantage of their tax incentives to set up enterprises or groups of enterprises to harness viable economic benefits to boost the revenue generating base of the State, he reiterated NEPZA’s commitment to partner and support the state.

    Responding, the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, who welcomed the team on behalf of the Governor of Cross River State, Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu, assured the NEPZA boss and his team of state government’s readiness to partner and give NEPZA the needed support to carry out their operations in the state without any hitch, noting that if EPZ works, it is also to the state’s benefit because it will make other state owned facilities like Tinapa to work

    Odey called on EPZ to intensify its marketing efforts for Tinapa by directing potential investors to the business resort. He commended their unrelenting efforts in regards to their Corporate Social Responsibility to their host community and the people of the State.

    The NEPZA boss was accompanied on the visit by officials of the Calabar Free Trade Zone (FTZ) and Tinapa Business Resort Trade Zone.

    Other participants present during the visit included the Secretary to State Government, Prof Anthony Owan Enoh, several members of the State Exco, including the Commissioner for Industries, Dr. Mathias Angioha, Commissioner for Commerce, Dr. Mrs. Abigail Duke-Orok, Commissioner for Information, Mr. Erasmus Ekpang, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Development, Hon. Abuvakar Ewa, and Commissioner for Transport, Pastor Ekpenyong Cobham as well as the Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Mr. Patrick Egbede.

  • C’River Deputy Governor Bids E I Okoro Farewell, Welcomes New Commander Of The 13th Brigade Army

     

    The Cross River State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey has commended the services of the former Commander of the 13th Brigade Army, who has been promoted to the rank of Major General and has been transferred.

    Odey bid the former Commander farewell and wished him success in his new assignment.

    The deputy governor used the opportunity and welcomed the new commander, Brig-Gen. I M Ibrahim to Cross River State
    He assured him of maximum support by the government as he carries out his duties.

    Earlier, Maj. Gen. Okoro, noted that he has come to bid the deputy governor farewell and to introduce his successor, Brig-Gen. I M Ibrahim.

  • Peter Odey Congratulates Gov Otu On Supreme Court Victory

    I congratulate my boss and principal, the dogged and pragmatic leader and Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Otu on our Supreme Court Victory.

    Today’s judgement has indeed put an end to the many distractions and legal tussles we have experienced. The Supreme Court Judgement has further reaffirmed the People of Cross River’s Hope in the Prince Bassey Otu led administration.

    I thank the Cross River People for their prayers , support and solidarity in the last couple of months. May I also congratulate our team of Lawyers for a job well done and also commend the Judiciary for their transparency and accountability in the discharge of justice and preserving the People First Mandate given to us by the People of Cross River State.

    Indeed, Cross River is in good and safe hands under the maverick and quintessential leadership of Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu.

    Let’s work together in making our State the envy of many.

  • C’River Deputy Governor Pays Condolence Visit To APC State Chairman

    The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, over the weekend, paid a condolence visit on the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba at his Imaje country home, Yala Local Government Area over the demise of his father in December, 2023.

    Rt. Hon. Odey who was accompanied on the visit by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ededem Ani and a friend, Mr. John Upan Odey.

    In a condolence letter earlier sent to the APC Chairman, Rt. Hon. Odey said there was no doubt about Late Pa Ogar’s remarkable life of integrity and his dedication to hard work and business. He said the late patriarch was a man blessed with great physical strength which gift he did not waste as he remained active, investing every waking hour in his trade till the day he took his last breathe.

    He said: “Your father’s positive influence on his community is well noted within Yala. He was a gifted peacemaker and community leader whose deft display of great wisdom in resolving difficult family impasses will be remembered for ages.”

    Concluding, he prayed God Almighty grant Barr. Eba and his family the fortitude to bear the loss as well as grant the soul of Pa Emmanuel Eba Ogar peaceful repose in his bossom.

    Responding, Barr. Eba who reminisced on the bond he had shared with his late father, described Late Pa Emmanuel Eba as his mentor and confidant, stating that no one can fill the gap created by his father’s death.

    Barr. Eba thanked the Deputy Governor and his team for the love shown to him even at this trying moment.

    Highpoint of the visit was the signing of condolence register by the Deputy Governor.

  • CR’ Deputy Governor Honors Paramount Ruler, Celebrates Nonagenarian, Priest At 35

     

    The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, made a courtesy call to the Paramount Ruler of Ogoja, HRM, Oti Mathias Odey Abua, on Sunday, December 31, 2023. This visit was part of the Deputy Governor’s New Year activities in his Ogoja hometown.

    The Deputy Governor who took the opportunity to express his appreciation for the Paramount Ruler’s support and leadership, presented some food items and cash to the Paramount Ruler as a gesture of goodwill and solidarity for the New Year celebration.

    The Paramount Ruler, who in turn gave some fat yams to the Deputy Governor, expressed joy and gratitude for having the state’s second-in-command celebrate with him stating that he could have danced if not that such dances were forbidden for kings by tradition. He commended the Deputy Governor for his humility and service to the people of Cross River State while praying that God will protect him and grant success throughout Hon. Odey’s time in government.

    In a separate event, the Deputy Governor celebrated the 90th birthday of Chief Julius Abua Abang, a respected community leader in Mbube, Ogoja Local Government Area and the father of one time Attorney General of the State, Barr. Joe Oshie Abang. The Deputy Governor praised Chief Abang’s reputation and longevity, expressing joy at seeing the nonagenarian surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

    Earlier, the Deputy Governor stopped by a Catholic Parish in Odajie, Mbube, where he testified that the Rev. Fr Prof Jake Otonko who has served 35 years in the priesthood, was instrumental in his personal and professional growth. He said it was the priest who supported his post graduate studies at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. In recognition of this early assistance, the Deputy Governor gifted the priest a car and made a donation towards the church building.

    The Deputy Governor was accompanied on the visit by his Head of Personal Staff, Dr. Chris Ojikpong, political appointees and some friends.

  • Ogoja Carnival Gains Traction, To Rival Calabar Carnival – Odey

     

    The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has indicated that the sterling performance of the carnival bands in the Ogoja Carnival are a clear indication that it could compete with and become better than the Calabar Carnival in the near future. Rt. Hon. Peter Odey made the statement during the maiden edition of the Ogoja Carnival today, Saturday, 23rd December, 2023, shortly after the 5 carnival bands displayed at the first adjudication centre along Mission Road, Igoli, Ogoja.

    Rt. Hon. Odey who envisioned a future where the Ogoja Carnival will not just be a local celebration but a renowned event that rivals the Calabar Carnival, appreciated the wife of the Governor, Her Excellency, Rev. Mrs. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, for ensuring that the Ogoja Carnival was a reality.

    Traditionally, the Calabar Carnival has been the epitome of celebratory events in the Nigeria, drawing crowds from far and wide. However, a shift has been witnessed in this year’s Festival Calendar with the introduction of the Ikom and Ogoja Carnivals by the Sen. Prince Bassey Otu administration, offering a local alternative that takes the essence of the festive season from the capital city to other parts of the state.

    According to an Elder Statesman from Northern Cross River, Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, people from both the Northern and Central parts of the state have long yearned to experience the carnival spirit within their own communities. He thanked Rt. Hon. Peter Odey for his instrumental role in bringing the Ogoja Carnival to realization.

    The Ogoja Carnival which featured five competing bands (Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade’s Band, Hon. Peter Odey’s Band, Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo’s Band, Sen. Steve Odey’s Band and Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbor’s Band) and one non-competing band, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu’s Band, witnessed the distinguished participation of Honourable Members of the House of Assembly, all State Executive Council Members from the north, political office holders, traditional rulers and residents who were all optimistic about the potential of the carnival becoming a cultural landmark that will draw participation from a broader audience.

  • Children Carnival Dry Run: Peter Odey Commends Onari Duke’s Contribution To Calabar Carnival

    The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has expressed his appreciation for Mrs. Onari Duke’s significant contribution to the development of Carnival Calabar. Hon. Odey, emphasizing the importance of giving credit where it is due, conveyed this sentiment on the 17th of December, 2023, during the flag-off of the dry run for the children’s carnival in Calabar.
    Rt. Hon. Odey also extended an invitation to the former First Lady to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

    Prior to the ribbon-cutting, Mrs. Onari Duke urged parents to encourage their children’s participation in the children’s carnival on the 27th of December, assuring them that the event would not promote negative habits. She expressed her delight in the revival of the children’s carnival after a pause of several years and highlighted the economic advantages that awaited Cross Riverians, with an influx of visitors to the city during the carnival.

    During the event, the Chairman of the Carnival Commission, Mr. Gabe Onah, conveyed his invitation for everyone to witness the pure joy and innocence reflected in the children, stating “This is what Carnival Calabar is offering to the world, as the entire botanic garden has been taken over by this great colors, the color of warmth and the color of love. What is the color of love? Childhood.”
    He also welcomed the Deputy Governor to join the children for a walk, mentioning that the 6-kilometer dry run was conducted to test the system.

    SUBJECT: DISCLAIMER ON IMPERSONATION AND FRAUDULENT FACEBOOK ACCOUNT

    It has come to our attention that some unscrupulous individuals have again created a fake Facebook account (Hon Peter Agbe Odey) impersonating the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey and attempting to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

    The general public is hereby informed that the Deputy Governor is not involved in any employment or scholarship programmes, neither is he facilitating other benefits as the impersonators promise while requesting payments from unsuspecting members of the public. The fraudster using the name ‘Dr. Jacob Agi Isaac’ and Phone No. 09044605770.

    I wish to categorically and unequivocally dissociate Rt. Hon. Peter Odey and the Office of the Deputy Governor from these malicious activities being carried out by petty criminals, and to condemn in the strongest possible terms all attempts by these fraudsters attempting to deceive and exploit innocent citizens, not minding the harsh economic realities our country is experiencing at this time.

    The public should take notice that Rt. Hon. Peter Odey and his office have never and will never request payments, no matter how small, through social media platforms nor will he transact any government business through any unofficial channels. Extreme caution and vigilance should be exercised in verifying the authenticity of any communication claiming to be the Deputy Governor or from his Office before taking any action or providing personal information while interacting on social media and other online platforms.

    We value the trust placed in us by the public and will take every necessary step to protect the interests of our citizens and the Office of the Deputy Governor remains committed to serving the people of Cross River State with transparency, integrity, and accountability.

  • C’River Deputy Governor Departs Ogoja For Calabar, Stops At Ochong- Obubra For Sunday Service

    The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, and his entourage, on Sunday, 10th December, 2023, made a stop at the St. Eugene Roman Catholic Parish in Ochon (Obubra LGA) where he joined other worshippers to thank God for a new week.

    Rt. Hon. Odey, who was on his way back from the funeral of Mrs. Janet Ateb (Née Ayade), used the opportunity to support his old friend, the parish priest, Rev. Fr Christian Ihemase.

    Hon. Odey was accompanied on the visit by the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barr. Alphonsus Eba, member representing Ogoja State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Thomas Aruku, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu, former Commissioner for Industries, Mr. Peter Egba, the Head of Personal Staff to the Deputy Governor, Dr. Chris Ojikpong, amongst other dignitaries.

  • C’River Deputy Governor Gifts Long-Distance Walker One Million Naira Cash

     

    The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Hon Peter Odey, today, 2nd November 2023, welcomed Mr. Agbor Joseph Ejini popularly known as ‘Joe Sweet’ in his office with a cash gift of N1m.

    Odey celebrated Mr. Ejini for the great feat of walking from Obudu to Calabar as a show of solidarity and celebration of the emergence of Sen Prince Bassey Edet Otu and Peter Odey as Governor and Deputy Governor, respectively.

    The native of Utugwang in Obudu Local Government Area of the State, who is a musician and skitmaker, had composed songs used in the gubernatorial campaign and promised that he would walk from Obudu to Calabar if His Excellency Sen. Prince Bassey Otu and Rt. Hon. Peter Odey emerged as winners.

    Speaking after his meeting with the Deputy Governor, Mr Ejini said “I have never been so happy in my life. I thank the Deputy Governor for acknowledging what I have done and for gifting me the sum of One Million Naira. I pray that God will bless him and give him wisdom”. He added that he would use the cash gift to upgrade his musical career and create opportunities for youths in his locality.

    It would be recalled that the artist who embarked on a seven-day journey on foot from Obudu to Calabar from Wednesday, 18th October, arrived Calabar on Tuesday 24th October, 2023. Joe Sweet, the passionate supporter of the new administration was received by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, on behalf of the Governor, Send. Prince Bassey Otu.

    The artist, on arrival in Calabar, presented both the Governor and his deputy with portraits as well as a victory song he recorded in their honor.
