Beebo/Bumaji To Have One Of The Best Road Networks In CRS By 2022 – Sandy Onor.

    By Elijah Ugani

The senator representing Cross River Central senatorial district, Sen. Prof. Sandy Ojang Onor has stated that the Beebo/Bumaji road is going to be one of the best road networks in Cross River State by 2022.

The lawmaker made this known on the 3rd of April, 2021 at Kakwe – Beebo during a launching for the construction of Beebo/Bumaji Road organized by the community.

The senator who was represented at the event by his Senior Legislative Aide, Associate Prof. Dave Imbua maintained that the development of any community depends on its road network, and where there are no roads, it is difficult for anything else to be done.

In his words “This is a project that I take to heart and I will do everything possible to make sure that by the end of 2022, Beebo/Bumaji community will have one of the best road networks in Cross River State.

“I appreciate this project because I also come from a community that has difficulties with access road, so the same burden I have for my community, Nsofan in Etung Local Government Area, is the same burden I have for other communities in the Central Senatorial District that are yet to be provided with good road network.

“Initially, when the organizers of this programme came to me, I told them not to worry, because I have a special programme for this road by 2022, but on a second thought, I said it is good for people to start a project so that they can take ownership and responsibility for it. I will be making other interventions after now.

“Whatever contribution that is being made today will be the beginning of a long process of funding until this road is completed. On this note, I want to make a donation of half a million naira”

In his capacity, the Senior Legislative Aide to senator Sandy Onor, Associate Prof. Dave Imbua used the opportunity to call on well meaning cross Riverians to rise to the challenge of stopping the indiscriminate and crazy deforestation going on in Eastern Boki.

Imbua averred that “On a personal note, for those who are my friends on social media, you will realize that an issue that has occupied me in the past months is the rate at which deforestation is taking place in Eastern Boki.

“I made a claim which I thought I was right, but from the way the chairman of this occasion, Ambassador Soni Abang, has spoken this evening, I now know that my claim was not right because I said it is one thing that is making me cry more than the bereaved, but I now know that there are other people who are seriously concerned.

“Let me say to the Chairman of this occasion that on a matter of this nature, you don’t need to look at people’s faces, by the nature of human beings, people must be angry, if they are angry for a good course, I don’t think there is any problem with it. There are things we do for the sake of the future. Future generation of this community needs this environment to live in, if there are destroyed, what do we think will happened.
It is a fight we must come together to resist and make sure that it does not continue”

  • Sandy Onor’s Heroism And Patriotic Leadership By Ori Owan

Sandy Onor’s Heroism And Patriotic Leadership By Ori Owan

It was the famous English playwright, William Shakespeare who postulated that “to be honest as this world goes is to be one man picked out of ten thousand.” And one man picked out of ten thousand as Escriva Balaguer succinctly averred, “must sanctify his work, and sanctify others through his good works”.

Distinguished Senator Professor Sandy Onor is one man picked by God to lead and to redeem humanity. Amongst millions, he has the crown of stewardship placed on his shoulders. Amongst his contemporaries, he distinguished himself in brilliance, oratory, character of politics. Amongst his counterparts, he has become a shining model. Amongst his kinsmen, he remains the light, pathfinder and touch-bearer. In fact, he has restored dignity and pride to the good people of Cross River Central. He has totally redefined and sanctified the business of politics, with seemingly hopeless and shattered dreams, revived. In addition to this, his functional competence has become a reference point in many climes around the world.

It is worthy of note that several undeveloped communities which hitherto were in darkness, have been taken out of the wilderness by virtue of Sandy Onor’s unparalleled performance in all spheres of life. These tangible achievements have made several Nigerians to describe him, and correctly so, as the functional ship with the largest “rudder on the wide-open sea”. This is in view of the developmental strides that characterize his quality of leadership and representation in the past years. As a symbol of peace, he plays his politics without mudslinging, which has made it possible for him to reconcile several political factions in his immediate constituency and in other senatorial districts of the state. Indeed, he has inspired and sustained confidence in his followers and this is the reason why he has become more like a beautiful bride with many potential suitors. Unlike many politicians who are deserted, Sandy Onor moves with a mammoth crowd wherever he goes, especially on his regular visits to his constituency.

Like him or hate him, Distinguished Senator Sandy Onor is a seasoned legislator, a quintessential Patriot, and a crown jewel of inestimable value. His character and leadership style clearly smack of true statesmanship. And by words, deeds, and actions, he speaks truth to power and performs accordingly.

Thus, from the ancient hills of Obanliku to the seas of Bakassi, Professor Senator Sandy Onor is without a stint of doubt, one of the most peaceful, responsible, and outstanding politicians in Nigeria’s fourth republic. This is because he is the first politician who has given the common men and women, who constitute the hoi poloi of the society, the pride of place in representation. He does this by visiting his constituents regularly to feel their pulse. He is so simple but disciplined to the extent that he runs an open-door policy around his home and office. What manner of a man is Senator Sandy Onor!

However, Senator Onor’s socio-economic policies and programmes have reduced poverty to the barest minimum. His financial support to both small and medium scale enterprises have gone a long way to revive several businesses within and around the state. On infrastructural development, Sandy Onor has left profound legacies in the rural communities of the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State. Projects are executed and commissioned routinely across the local government areas of the district. As an efficient and uniquely gifted Senator, he awards his contracts in line with international best practices, and supervises same from start to finish. In fact, Senator Sandy Onor made a vow that he will never leave any project abandoned, hence, with nearly two years in power, he has convinced his constituents that he is indeed the Original Caterpillar and the “Irrunandu of Ejagham Nation”.

In his legislative responsibility, he has performed excellently, with several important bills and motions to his credit. His unparalleled intellect, foresight, and vision leave many erstwhile leaders and followers in utter amazement as to whether Distinguished Senator Professor Onor was born in a different world. All these, in the considered opinion of this writer, remains the reason why he is rising higher and higher through the ladder of leadership with the determination to pull Cross Riverians out of the tinderbox. This is possible in line with Senator Onor’s commitment to justice, equity, poverty reduction, and infrastructural development for the present and future generations.

  • At 55, Prof. Sandy Onor Has Undauntedly Impacted Humanity Through Effective Service Delivery.

At 55, Prof. Sandy Onor Has Undauntedly Impacted Humanity Through Effective Service Delivery.

    By Elijah Ugani

As I reminisced on the existence of Sen. Prof. Sandy Onor in this physio temporal terrain, I am yet to come to terms with the specialty associated with the uniqueness of his creation.

I really don’t know where to start writing this piece from, because I will end up writing a book in his honor, considering the import of his magnanimity and service to humanity.

Sen. Onor is currently a Professor at the Department of History & International Studies in the University of Calabar, Nigeria. Where he has taught a thousand generation of scholars who are currently braking grounds and setting records in all spheres of life. He has mentored so many young persons including his peers and colleagues both in the academia and politics. No wonder the President of the Nigerian senate, Sen. Ahmed Lawan, could not control his emotions when he declared Sen. Sandy Onor as the orator of the 9th senate.

He has authored several books, including The Ejagham Nation in the Cross River Region of Nigeria (1994 & 2015), and Local Governance in Nigeria (2005). No wonder he is vested with the needed prowess to navigate and circumvent the huddles associated with leadership within the Nigerian context.

Prof. Sandy has been highly recognized and decorated for his scholarship and other achievements, within and outside the country.

At various times, he had served as the Executive Chairman of Etung Local Government Council (1999-2002), Chairman, Cross River State Local Government Service Commission, Commissioner for Agriculture (2010-2011) and Commissioner for Environment (2011-2013) among other public offices.

As a first timer in the senate, I recall my rebuttal to the attack on his person by his traducers on June 20th, 2020. I requested them to give the senator and all first timers up to December, 2020 to ask for their score cards.

Sometimes around September, 2020 Sen. Onor rolled out a litany of constituency projects across the six local governments that made up the central senatorial district. My joy know no bounds because he didn’t disappoint me. The most important aspect of it being that majority of his constituents are very proud of his enigmatic representation and have no regret in his holding their mandate.

The tact with which he lobbied and got the highest number of constituency projects spread across the central senatorial district in the history of the state remains a mystery.
Sen. Onor needs to be understudied.

His is currently distributing computer systems and accessories to five secondary schools in five local governments in the central senatorial district.

Of recent, he seemed to be the only senator who is in touch with his constituents at regular intervals, spinning through the south, central and northern senatorial districts of the state.

Just recently, the Ndok Clan in Ogoja local government area of northern senatorial district, honored hi with a chieftaincy title having facilitated the grading of the Ndok – Kakwagom road.

To have been born on the day when the entire globe celebrates the virtues of St. Valentine anchored on love, goes beyond mere coincidence. There seemed to be a divine ontology associated with his birth that is yet to be unraveled.

His love for his mentees, students, constituents, cross river state and in deed humanity at large can only be best explained by divine providence.

Prof. Onor’s stint at the senate visa viz his past records shows that he is an embodiment of selfless service to humanity.

His recent bill for a special fund for our health sector lay credence to the fact that he understands our basic needs and his disposition to combat them headlong is not in doubt.

I can best describe him as an epitome of knowledge, a quintessential trailblazer, a community mobilizer and builder, an astute politician, a seasoned administrator per excellent, a contemporary scholar of very high repute, a silent archiver.

I admire his auditory prowess, his rendition of vocabularies effortlessly to the admiration of his listeners.

On this auspicious day of his birth anniversary, like most cross riverians out there, we are very proud of him and will continue to support every of his initiative that is geared towards service to humanity.

The best is yet to come as the future is even brighter. We expect more from him as he begins another cycle of life today.

Senator Onor would continue to make cross river state proud as I pray for global platform to enable him showcase and market the state in particular and Nigeria at large to the world.

Once again, congratulations to the distinguished senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
