Catholic Priest Admonishes ASUU On Strike, At Late Pa Angba’s Burial

    By UNICROSS Media

Reverend Father Benedict Mose of Saint John The Baptist Catholic Church Wula in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, has admonished members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) against using their low emoluments as a reason for embarking on industrial strike actions.

He admonished them while delivering a sermon at Uchu-Yache, during the funeral mass for Late Pa Elder Bernard Ogabor Angba, father of Professor Augustine Angba, Vice Chancellor of University of Cross River State.

He said “ASUU should not go on strike on ‘we are not well paid’. They should go on strike because things are not going on well…. I want to see ASUU going on strike because the primary school sector is not functioning, not tertiary institutions…. Most of the corruption that we are crying about, we must go back to primary schools. I am an Administrator of a school. Judging from the moral decadence among children of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 years, I am afraid of what will happen in 20 years from now. We have to go back.”

In addition, he advised ASUU to look inwards and fight against bribery and corruption as perpetrated by some Lecturers. He said: “A Lecturer will complain about Federal Government and you are collecting ‘sorting’. Are you not ashamed? You are upgrading marks. You can’t receive bribes and think you will be great.”

He enjoined Lecturers and other sympathisers at the funeral service to readjust their lives and live well so they will be at peace with God on Judgement Day after their deaths.

Reverend Father Mose described Late Pa Angba as a man who touched several lives. He said: “You have seen his children, so it’s like seeing their father. They must have touched your lives, that’s why you are here. It means that he touched your lives too. I am giving you an assignment Think about your lives today. One day as this Papa is lying here, that’s how one day, they will keep you. Where will you be on the Judgement Day?”

Late Pa Elder Bernard Angba died at the age of 80. In his tribute to him, Professor Augustine Angba described him as “strong and tenacious both in sickness and in good health.”
He added that just as he is proud to be a product of his father’s loins, he knows that even in the grave, his father is happy that he (Professor Angba) is a product of his loins.
We wish Late Pa Elder Bernard Ogabor Angba peaceful rest.
