Women of Nkum-Irede have celebrated their maiden Annual Women’s Day with a colourful display of culture, talent, enterprise, and unity, as women from communities across the area converged at St. Gregory Primary School, Ndoh, for the grand finale of the historic celebration.
The event, which was marked by traditional dances, cultural displays, and other activities, brought together women from the 10 communities of Nkum-Irede in a celebration designed to honour their contributions to family and community development while promoting their empowerment and self-reliance.
A major highlight of the activities preceding the grand finale was a football tournament, where Narrow Gate FC of Aburumbede emerged champions after defeating Target FC of Ishi-Aya 3–1 in the final to lift the 2026 trophy.
The week-long activities also featured the maiden General Assembly of Nkum-Irede women, a medical outreach, and skills-acquisition training focused on the production of hypo, bar soap, and liquid soap.
The women later showcased products produced during the training, demonstrating the practical impact of the empowerment initiative and their determination to develop skills that can translate into sustainable livelihoods.
The Nkum-Irede Women’s Day was established to recognise and honour the resilience, industry, cultural heritage, and contributions of women to the growth and development of their families and communities.
Beyond celebration, the organisers said the initiative was conceived as a platform to encourage Nkum-Irede women to take their rightful place in the digital age and participate actively in all spheres of human endeavour. These include education, business, agriculture, politics, leadership, technology, sports, and other professional fields.
The celebration further seeks to promote unity, awareness, education, empowerment, self-reliance, and active participation among women, while encouraging them to overcome barriers that have historically limited their advancement.
It also provides an avenue for women to discover and harness their potential, support one another, and play a more meaningful role in the socio-economic development of Nkum-Irede.
The colourful event attracted prominent personalities and community leaders, including Rt. Hon. Paddy Uguge, Mr. Jimmy Aninege, and His Royal Majesty Ntol Atol Felix Ibu, who joined the women in marking the landmark occasion.
With the successful maiden edition, the Nkum-Irede Women’s Day has set the stage for an annual celebration aimed at strengthening unity among women, promoting their empowerment, and inspiring greater participation in the development of Nkum-Irede.
