  • Former Commissioner For Industry, Hon Peter Egba, Storms APC Party Secretariat, Declares For Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency

    By Samuel Irek

The immediate past Commissioner for Industry Cross River State, Hon Peter Egba Akam has declared his intention to contest for the Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 General Elections. The former Commissioner who is obviously the first to declare for the seat under the platform of APC, stormed the APC State Party Secretariat with an overwhelming crowd of supporters to declare his intention before the State leadership of the Party.

Speaking during the declaration, the former Commissioner declared his readiness to drive a prosperity agenda for the people of Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency.

“I want to thank my boss and the leader of our great party, the only digital Governor for the opportunity he gave some of us to serve our dear state. Of course, it has been a worthwhile experience serving under his purview. Today, I am standing tall because he offered me the opportunity”

Speaking further on his aspiration to represent the people of Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency, the erstwhile Commissioner decried the present state of lack of representation in the federal Constituency.

“For 12years till 2015, we had a lawmaker who represented us wonderfully well, as if he was a Governor of the state. This is because his representation cut across all the state. As a lawmaker, he offered employment and empowerment opportunities across the state. I have come here today to say that I want to step into those shoes that he left behind and to drive the prosperity agenda for our people. I understand that the basic duties of a lawmaker is lawmaking, which is representation and oversight function and I possess the social capital to meet other challenges incidental to my office. I have therefore come to say, please give me that opportunity to drive the prosperity agenda for my people and this party. Let me reiterate that it is not my duty to judge the performance of the current occupant but I will leave that to the court of Public opinion to Judge.

In his reaction, the State Chairman of the Party, Barr. Alphonsus Eba, described the aspirant as a bosom friend who have shown enormous capacity and commitment to his people and party.

“There come a time in the life of a man that he is put on the pulpit not to sermonize but to be tried. Today, I am under trial. I am on trial because a young man that our path crossed in 2015, became brothers, friends and allies is today running an election. And after the God he worships, after the boss he has, he has so much confidence that his friend is the Chairman and he has left his fate in the hands of his friend either to make or mar. So, I am on trial. I owe my brother and friend, every support and if it comes for me to do it, I will do it because that is Politics. I am consoled by the caliber of men I am seeing here today with my friend. In terms of capacity, I am sure that my friend has it in abundance”

  • Cross River, Kano Are true Examples Of National Unity, Says Emir Of Kano

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has described Cross River State as a perfect example of national unity where peace and tranquillity reign supreme, irrespective of religious and ethnic differences, saying it shares a lot in common with Kano in that regard.

The First Class Monarch stressed that the two states are a perfect reflection of the indivisibility of Nigeria, a legacy the country’s founding fathers established.

The Emir, therefore, urged the two states to continue to promote unity, tolerance and peace among people of divergent backgrounds residing there.

This, according to him, was to show a good example to other states to emulate.

Speaking through a palace delegation to the Cross River State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade over the recent enthronement of the new Sarki of Hausa/Fulani and Head of Muslim Community in the state, the Kano Monarch said Cross River has always been and will continue to be a bastion of peace in the country.

Led by the Yarima of Kano, Alhaji Lamido Abubakar Bayero and Dan-Maliki of Kano, Ambassador Ahmed Umar, the Emir condoled with the Government and People of Cross River State over the demise of the former Sarki, Alhaji Salisu Abba Lawan and congratulated the new Sarki and Head of Muslim Community, Alhaji Garuba Lawan.

  • You Might Succeed In Buying Fake Love, But When The Money Is Out Of The Equation Or She Starts Making Hers, You Become Useless BY WOFAI USANI

It’s easier to find a man who has money than a man who is mentally sound and emotionally available.
May God give young men the wisdom to know that money will not buy you real love. You might succeed in buying fake love but when the money is out of the equation or when she starts making hers, you become useless!

In recent times, men have been complaining about how women are after money, while I am not affirming that it should be so, the truth, regardless is, some men have nothing to offer asides money.
When we remove money from the equation, you find out that some guys are empty; no spice, no intellectual treasure, no motivation, no care, no romance, nothing! I mean nothing!! They believe that everything is about money, so they refuse to work on themselves to have other attributes that will keep a relationship going!! No act of service, no words of affirmation! Most young men today want to make money, not because they want to provide. Most young men make money because they believe that money will keep marriages or relationships. This is the reason why women leave marriages and relationships when they have their monies.

Yes, money can get you a relationship or marriage, but will money keep it?!
Money can never keep a relationship together, if it could, Bill Gates wouldn’t have divorced his ex-wife, Melinda Gates. As a man you need to make deliberate efforts to spice up your relationship and marriage, you need to be intentional about making her happy! If you think your money will cover up for the emotional inadequacy, you are wrong! She will stay in that relationship or marriage for as long as she can to build herself and make her own money, and once she does, she moves on!!! Be intentional about care, affection, attention, and making out time to spend quality moments together.
While most women who marry rich men cheat as a result of old habits that never die, some cheat for lack of emotional availability! She will carry your money and give it to some guy out there to satisfy her emotionally if you don’t!

Your job is not only to give her money as a single man or pay bills and give her school fees for the children as a married man! You are to make her happy and emotionally satisfied!

If money is all you have to offer, you are of no use when she starts making hers!

‘A woman feels she doesn’t need any man when she makes money’
(It is because most men have nothing to offer asides from MONEY).

  • Cross River Marks World Malaria Day With A Call To Optimize Malaria Commodity Utilization In Communities

Another day to commemorate the World Malaria Day is here as Malaria amounts for millions of deaths in Nigeria as well as maternal and child mortality rate globally, hence the adoption of drastic measures to curtail these effects cannot be over emphasized.

With this year’s theme given as ” Harness Innovation To Reduce The Malaria Disease Burden and Save Lives”, measures are being taken to optimize commodity utilization both for curative and preventive measures across health facilities in the state.

In Cross River State, the state government embarked on a carnival like display across major streets in the metropolis to sensitize the people on the need to prevent malaria at all cost by complying to some adaptative measures while we await the introduction and commercialization of Malaria Vaccine.

Wife of the state Governor, Dr Linda Ayade who declared the event opened said, the Government will continue to harness productive means through partnership with Non- Governmental Organizations to strengthen malaria intervention across the state.

Dr Ayade who was represented by the Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Janet Ekpenyong said it was high time key players shift attention from some other diseases and focus on Malaria intervention which she said records the world’s highest mortality rate among pregnant women and under 5 children annually.

“In this part of the world, we have commonized malaria but unfortunately Every second , a child dies from malaria and that is why , we must collectively take urgent steps to totally eradicate malaria in our society”.

As a state , we have ensured that, all pregnant women who come for antenatal services are tested for malaria , treated nets given to them , and advise them on how to prevent malaria.

Because of the perculiarity of the disease, Malaria has been absorbed into the State Health insurance scheme, by so doing, offer free services to pregnant women, children and others in the vulnerable cycle”.

Dr Ekpenyong decried the massive abuse of Anti-malaria tablets noting that, except through the confirmation from a rapid diagnostic test and laboratory screenings, patients should desist from the purchase of Anti-malaria drugs over the counter without prescription, which according to her they may develop “Resistance” and leads to other medical complications.

“Not all fevers are symptoms of malaria, it is advisable to first present yourself to a medical personnel who will advise that a test be carried out in relations to the symptoms presented.
Except the result certifies the presence of malaria parasite, patients are advised to desist from taking Anti-malaria drugs because the resultant effect will be the development of Resistance against such drugs which might lead to some other medical complications”.

She called on residents to end the timid practice of converting Insecticide Treated Nets into forming fence in their farmlands instead of using it to protect themselves and their loved ones from the Malaria Vector.

She said, “we can’t continue to do things the old way and expect different results, our people are used to converting Insecticide Treated Nets into farm fences on their vegetable plots instead of using them at home.
This has resulted into more damages as it exposes the crops to absorb unhealthy chemicals which may result to cancer cells formation”.

Dr Ekpenyong further noted that, Government will continue to invest in the purchase of Anti-malaria tablets to ensure that, all facilities in the state boast of substantial quantities depending on the population density of the area.

She appreciated the partners for their support both technical, material and other innovative formats which she said, has contributed to the immense awareness of people on the proper use of Insecticide Treated Nets as well as requesting for test before malaria drugs administration.
She concluded by encouraging people to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Earlier in a welcome address, Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Area, Hon Mrs Esther Bassey commended the state government for provision of Anti-malaria tablets and other commodities to health facilities in her area council.

She said, with collaborations with the council, health workers have reached out to all Communities in the area raising awareness on the dangers of malaria while also exposing them into healthy practices like , good personal hygiene, environmental sanitation as well as the use of Insecticide Treated Nets.

She also donated Anti-malaria drugs and promised to continue to support the state government in provision of more commodities in order to attract clients to health facilities in the Area council.

The Director Public Health, Dr Iwara Iwara reiterated Government’s commitment to ending malaria and Called on residents of the state to be more responsible by taking care of their environment and avoid self medication.

Other speakers at the event were representatives of various Malaria support Partners who expressed satisfaction with the even distribution of Malaria commodities to Facilities, level of awareness created as well as the documentation of incidences in various Communities.

They promised to support the state in it’s new innovation of prioritizing Prevention through constant sensitization and awareness creation, as they said, prevention remains the cheapest approach to health management.

Benefiting members of the community also thanked the Government for their timely response as just as the raining season sets in.

The DG was supported by the Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Area, Director of Local Government Health Authority, Calabar South, Mrs Eme Archibong, Directors from the state Ministry of Health, State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, development partners including Breakthrough Action, PMI for state, World Health Organization, FHI and other Government officials as they distributed Insecticide Treated Nets and Anti-malaria tablets after conducting Laboratory tests on interested individuals. Other services such as Covid19 Vaccination, nutrition and other services were integrated in the event.

  • Beyond 2023: Why The Next Governor Must Be Able To Raise The Dead BY UMEZULIKE DESMOND-CRUZ

Beyond the rhetorics and Political razzmatazz, Cross River State needs a Governor who can possibly raise the dead. By this I mean, one who can do the near impossible to salvage what is left of us as a state. One who can take what is left of us as an insolvent state and transform it to something beautiful. To be more specific and particular, we need a miracle worker as our next Governor. And this is why I view it as absolutely denigrating and insulting to our collective sensibility as a people, reducing the Governorship position of our dear state to a mere parochial and fraternity sentiment, where a group of persons are hell-bent on mortgaging our state and our collective patrimony just to pursue the lifetime ambition of a man who sees the Governorship position as his birthright, under the guise of zoning— for Christ sake, we have grown pass such cabalistic approach in our politics as a state. This is time for real business.

So, it is in consideration of this immutable fact that I have painstakingly followed the activities of all the Gubernatorial aspirants in the mainstream Political Parties in our state. And I can attest that, while the forecast for the 2023 election is still beclouded by a lot of uncertainties, especially in the APC–as to who gets what, how, when and from where– the Peoples Democratic Party appears to be more resolute in their approach to choosing a Gubernatorial flagbearer. And speaking realistically and statistically, except God decides otherwise– which is not foreseeable, as the voice and choice of the people is predominantly the voice of God– Distinguished Senator Prof Sandy Ojang Onor will emerge as the flagbearer of PDP– the indices and favourabilty factors are glaring as there are reproducible. Little wonder a few other aspirants, sensing imminent defeat, have resorted to infantile propaganda against the candidacy of Sandy Onor. There seem to be a new found phobia, in the camp of some PDP aspirants, called SANDYPHOBIA (The Fear of Sandy Onor’s candidacy). So, while we wait for the Governor to choose between his long-time friend, Chief Barr Chris Agara and his adopted Political godson, Asuquo Ekpeyong Jnr, as APC Candidate, we must condition our mind to ask the right questions and choose the best candidate between Distinguished Senator Prof Sandy Onor and any other person from the APC.

We must begin to look beyond party affiliation, clannish inclination, tribal and Senatorial sentiment and elect a Governor who can bring back our Glory days. As a state with the 2nd lowest Allocation from Federal Government and high debt profile, coupled with a comatose economic and commercial activity, with businesses and SMEs closing up and leaving the state in droves, we need a Governor that can revive our Agricultural and Tourism potential, a governor with the Political will to fight insecurity. A Governor who understands the plight of the masses, one with enough experience of how the Local Government level functions. We don’t need another digital Governor that will give us digital Superhighway, Spaghetti Flyover, Deep Seaports and Industries only on the pages of Newspapers and Billboards conspicuously hanging in the streets of Abuja and Calabar. We need a Governor that can give us only the basic things–Security, Good Roads, Health, Education, etc–, revive our economy and take adequate care of our Civil servants and retirees. That is the Miracle—working Governor we all deserve in 2023, and I am optimistic that we can collective achieve this, if we jettison political sentiment and put Cross River State first.

    God bless Cross River State!!

  • 2023: APC Delegates Should Seek Victory First Before Cash: BVAS Will Be Used BY JUSTIN OBONGHA

Glorious greetings from God Most High and Happy Sunday to All Progressives Congress members and our dear DELEGATES. We are edging closer to our party’s primaries and I think it’s imperative we get to understand better, how the general elections especially Governorship in Cross River State may look like.

As we begin to assemble delegates and entreat for support for our different aspirants, please do well to always let them know a few things that should guides their decision, thoughts and choice. Do well to tell them that, if they supports and eventually vote a wrong aspirant, our party will fail woefully in the GENERAL ELECTIONS.

Tell the delegates that no bad candidate can win elections even by rigging. There’s a new technic that makes it impossible for rigging. It’s called BVAS. Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) is a device that replaced the smart card reader, which was used in 2015, with the dual capacity for fingerprint and facial authentication. BVAS is a technology solution based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and is only as good as both the age of the data and the training that the algorithms receive.

The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, is designed to inject technological impetus into our electoral system which makes it almost impossible to rig elections and had further reduced the power of incumbency.

BVAS is designed to give our electoral system credibility and given the voters hope that their votes will begin to matter. As a DELEGATES, we should be careful with who we VOTE as CANDIDATE.

2023 Governorship elections will be keenly contested. Our only advantage, will be fully dependent on the charisma, and likeliness of our candidate and not even the cash some aspirants are banking on.

Electoral corruption, cutting corners in the electoral process, snatching ballot boxes and ballot papers would never easily be done in 2023 elections. The by-election in Ogoja, Yala and Akpabuyo LGAs should be like a litmus test and the results I think wasn’t to our party’s favor. If not for the NAME, JUDE NGAJI, APC would have failed woefully.

So, let me say it very clearly that the BVAS as a form and mode of accreditation has come to stay, and the Commission isn’t ready to compromise it standard. And jettisoning of results will not be possible anymore. If the party gives ticket to someone whose victory will be dependent on rigging, or money, then we should be prepare for the worst.

Secondly, tell the DELEGATES that the strength of the opposition, is almost the as the same both in popularity, cash and otherwise. And the personalities PDP are parading as aspirants can’t be easily defeated except the APC present a candidate who is loved and extremely outstanding in popularity and likeliness.

We all know that Cross River State has for more than 20 years been ruled by the PDP and our people are deeply drunk with the name. So APC needs a candidate that is as old as PDP and more popular than the PDP as a party. Anything less, will be catastrophic to our victory.

Aspirants will come with money; some 200k, 300k, 500k and others may tempt you with even a million naira as a DELEGATES just to vote him to become CANDIDATE of our GREAT party, but be guided with the fact that the general elections has changed and we won’t enjoy the power of incumbency and therefore, we cannot rig elections.

Be it your brother, friend, master, boss, father or whatever relationship you share with any of the aspirants, be true to yourself, to them and to the party. Out collective interest as a party, is to win elections and continue to be the RULING party in the State.

This is my wise counsel to the DELEGATES and PARTY members.

    Justin Obongha.

  • Caterpillar Movement Debunks Rumors Of Sandy Onor Picking Senatorial Form, Called On Supporters To Remain Unperturbed

    CATERPILLAR MOVEMENT

    PRESS STATEMENT

We, in the Caterpillar Movement have come across a fictitious newstory by one Citizen Ekanem Essien purporting that our Principal, Sen. Sandy Ojang Onor has ” technically withdrawn ” from the Gubernatorial contest by picking dual forms for both the Gubernatorial and senatorial elections as a contingency in the event of failure.

We wish to outrightly debunk this malicious rumor by stating that Sen. Sandy Ojang Onor has never been one to shy away from a fight, especially one that is done with the public interest at heart.

Furthermore, Our principal, Sen. Onor would never venture into a course with double minds or cold feet to the extent of cowering by attempting to contest for two positions at once.

For the records, we wish to state clearly that only the Gubernatorial Nomination form was purchased by our Principal because he believes strongly in his credentials, competence and capacity to emerge victorious. The unwholesome act of buying two forms at a time is a practice set aside for losers to showcase their cowardice by being unsure about their political aspiration.

Our Principal is decisive, precise and Lucid enough about his intentions to rescue Cross River state from the shackles of maladministration currently experienced and is therefore reticent to subscribe to political gimmicks.

Let those who are cowards continue to be indecisive and at a quandary but we in the Caterpillar Movement are solely only interested in the Gubernatorial Position. We are confident that victory is sure.
Once more, we enjoin our supporters to continue to remain peaceful and unperturbed by this deliberate distraction by the true enemies of our dear State .
Again they have failed and will continue to fail.

    God bless us all.

    Joe Obi Bisong (Hon. Chief)
    Director General
