  • CRS YPP Dissociates From The Alleged Endorsement Of Dr. Steve Odey For CRN By-election

    By Admin

    PRESS RELEASE

The attention of Young Progressives Party (YPP) Cross River State Chapter has been drawn to the purported endorsement of Dr Stephen Odey, the PDP Candidate for the 5th December, 2020 Cross River North Senatorial District by-election by our party’s candidate, Dr. Francis Agaba.

Ordinarily, we would have ignored it as another ploy to distract the party that has since positioned itself as the major opposition political platform in Cross River State but the danger this information portends may be damaging to the image of the party, hence the need for this rebuttal.

    Expectedly, this unfortunate incident was hurriedly reported by a media happy aide of the PDP. As a party, we hereby state as follows;

That we totally dissociate ourselves from the alleged endorsement as it does not reflect the decision of the party.

That the party has immediately commenced investigation into the reason behind the presence of our candidate in the meeting of the PDP campaign organisation.

The party equally condemns in very strong terms the desperation of PDP to leverage on the rising profile of our great party without due process.

That the party has no plans whatsoever either now or in the foreseeable future to align or form any coalition with any political party.

Although, our candidate has explained his side of the story, we are currently studying the situation and will soon communicate appropriate sanctions in line with the constitution of the party. Our party will not tolerate any form of anti party activities from any member.

    Thank you!

  • School Teacher On The Run After Beating His Student To Death In Lagos

    By Ngozi Ikebuaso

A Nigerian man, Ridwan Oyewunmi, has called on Nigerians on social media to help him get justice after a school teacher who is currently on the run, allegedly beat his younger brother, Boluwatife Omelaja, to death at a school in Ikorodu, Lagos state on Thursday, November 26, IgbereTV reports.

In a Twitter thread, the distraught brother said the teacher beat Omelaja because he couldn’t answer a question.

    His tweets read:

“Twitter NG i just lost my brother to School Teacher Brutality. Mr Emmanuel(frame 1)is a sec school teacher at Elihans college, Ikorodu in Lagos. He beat up my brother Boluwatife Omelaja(frame 2) to death on 26th of November in the school premises because he couldn’t answer a math question he was asked correctly.

The school initially made us believe he slumped and died while he was trying to answer the question on the board, a boy who wasn’t ill or showed any sign of sickness before.

He was brought home in the school’s bus by the school proprietress and principal, along with Mr Emma-whom we didn’t know was the killer at that time, and he was buried few hours later according to muslim’s doctrine

Meanwhile Bolu’s other brother, Lateef Omelaja was prevented from leaving the school premises, in order to prevent him from spreading the true news to us at home and to buy Mr Emma more time to run away.

We believed the rooster and bull story the school fed us not until Lafeef got home at around 5pm and narrated what really happened at the school to us.

We also confirmed this from other students of the school including classmates of Boluwatife.

The painful part is, the school keeps trying to cover up for Mr emma claiming he didn’t beat Bolu.

Mr Emma is on the run, nowhere to be found.

I know no amount of punishment for him will bring back my brother but i just want Mr Emma located and justice served.”

  • Strike: Over 3,000 Students Of C/River School Of Health Technology To Protest In Ayade’s Office, Major Streets In Calabar

    By George Odok Jr

The Student Union Government of the Cross River College of Health Technology has concluded plans to lead a massive protest to Gov. Ben Ayade’s office for failure of the governor to restore the salary structure of staff of the College.

Addressing newsmen in Calabar, SUG President of the institution, Bassey Chima Kedemiti, said that the incessant strike embarked upon by staff of the institution over the salary structure had disrupted their academic calendar and directly prolonged their stay in school.

It would be recalled that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) of the institution embarked on a one week warning strike over the suspension of its Consolidated Polytechnic and Colleges of Education and Academic Salary Structure by the state government.

The suspension of the Consolidated Polytechnic Academic Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and the Consolidated Tertiary Educational Salary Structure (CONTEDISS) by the state government in Nov. 2019 has been described by members of the unions as “unwarranted”.

CONPCASS and CONTEDISS salary structures were approved by the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission in 2010 and implemented in 2011 for all Polytechnics, Monotechnics and College of Health Technology in Nigeria.

The SUG President lamented that their license examination have been put on hold because of the incessant strikes by lecturers of the institution over the salary structure.

“We are a population of over 5,000 students and we are hitting the street on a peaceful protest on November 30th if the state government fails to restore the salary structure of our staff.

“We are going to block the road on that day and there will be no movement along Mary Slessor road in Calabar. As the SUG President, I am going to lead over 3,000 students in a peaceful protest if the state government doesn’t restore the salary structure of staff of this institution.

“I know what our students can do, hence it will be nice for the governor to restore the salary structure and allow us have a smooth academic calendar,” he said.

Also speaking, the NACRISS President of the Institution, Comrade Obongha David Igri, said that the state government had neglected the welfare of their staff since 2017.

According to him, “College of Health Technology Calabar hardly embark on strike, not until this present administration came on board”.

“I must tell you the truth, the state government has not tried in meeting with the demands of staff of this institution.

“Students were supposed to have graduated and be mobilised for NYSC, but the state government had drastically reduced the salary of staff of this institution.

“We appeal with the state government to restore the salary structure of staff of this institution for the sake of the students.

“I am joining my strength with the SUG President to say that if the salary structure is not restored, we will embark on a massive protest on November 30th to the governor’s office,” he said.
