UNICAL Drums Support For Godwin Nyiam As C’River APC Chairman

The Association of Nigerian Universities Professional Administrators, University of Calabar chapter has called on the leadership of the All Progressive Congress APC, in Cross River State to give Comrade Godwin Nyiam the opportunity to serve the party as Chairman in the soon to be conducted state Congress.

The association made the call at its Secretariat on Tuesday September 28th, 2021 during a media briefing.

The Chairman ANUPA UCB, Barr George Igbikikuno hinted that Comrade Godwin Nyiam is one of their constituents having served as an Administrative Assistant in the University and was appointed as the Protocol Officer to 12th Senate of the University, where he served creditably. He noted that “Comrade Godwin Nyiam has the requisite capacity to galvanize the needed support to reposition the party”

Speaking further, he maintained that “Nyiam has revamped, reinvigorated, remodeled and reformed the Cross River State Traffic Regulatory and Management Agency.

“He was employed by the University of Calabar as an Admin Assistant and participated very actively in the association. While he was here, he was very positive, unique and integrity based force to be reckoned with. For Prof Zana Akpa to recognize ant found in him the qualities that his administration could invest in and subsequently appointed him as the Chief Protocol Officer of the University of Calabar, barely shows that he has in him very well known leadership qualities. He is a go getter, he is a transformer. He is an uncommon achiever, very sociable and principled.

“When there were internal some internal contradictions within the university system, he was able to take the bull by the horn and brought in innovations that gave the management some respites. In our association, he is a force to be reckoned with even though he is now with the Cross River State government. We still treat him as one of our members because of his immutable contributions to our association.

“He is a man with sound organizational skills. His capacity, competence, pedigree to deliver on assigned duties couple with antecedents of his previous leadership qualities are very outstanding. He is a man who speaks truth to powers. He is a detribalized comrade. All he want is the ability to deliver.

“We are fully aware and supported his intention when he wanted to represent Cross River Northern Senatorial district after the death of Sen Rose Oko, but the political gladiators schemed him out though our voice as an association was heard and that is why we have decided to come out to appeal to these powers brokers to give him the opportunity to unify the party”

This call came barely two days just as the National Association of Unified Commercial Transport Workers, Cross River State had call on the party stakeholders to consider the aspirations of Comrade Godwin Nyiam as the state party Chairman of APC.

Koko Dan Writes The Ukpo’s Heart Touching Condolence

    Dear Ukpo’s
Growing up was really imaginary when my father used to tell me about you.

As a child, I used to think that Ukpo was a town not knowing that it was a name of a great family. Ukpo is one of the names that magnifies the great Ogoja nation.

As early as five years I knew every name in the Ukpo family.

The name was chanted in every tales by moon light in our local community. It was a lullaby to us.

This family is a pace setter, This family is the light and this family was everyone’s point of positive references and guides to progress and hope.

My father who was Dr. Emmanuel Ukpo’s Tailor in the 60’s would go all out inviting people in my community to come vote for Dr. Paul Ukpo in the 1993 Senate election. The Ukpo’s were my father’s role model and I think my father passed that on to me.

It was a meritorious moment for me knowing the Late. John Akuma Ukpo family in Baltimore USA. It was one of my fulfilled dreams meeting the family that is a morning side dew and a star Trek to every visionary soul.

Today I am a friend to the Ukpo’s and I can’t help but share in their lives in their sorrows, in their gains and in their loses.

As the funerals commences, it will be an honor to have my tears on the ground of the Ukpo family compound and on the great Okpoma soil in honor of your name and for the losses.

At the moment, words are not enough . May you be consoled and be rest assured that a good name is better than silver and gold. And in all it was yesterday. You are today and always.

    Accept my condolences.
    With love.
    Koko Dan.

I look forward to working with my other colleagues as we strive to make Nigeria a better country.”

George Odok Writes Heart Warming Birthday Message To VC Of UNICAL

Today is a great day, a day to reflect on the birth of a distinguished Nigerian and a czar of quality university education.

SEPTEMBER 19 is quite significant because it afford us another opportunity to celebrate a record breaker, a sterling woman, a dynamic personality, the amazon of academic excellence, one of Nigeria’s leading most influential woman and the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar.

Cheers to a Professor who teaches from the heart and mind, and not just from the syllabus and books.

Happy birthday to the Vice-Chancellor who inspired her students to read beyond journals and look beyond classroom walls to reach the heights that were beyond their expectations.

  • Re-Obanliku LGC Chairman, Hon Margaret Inde Empowers Farmers With Yam, Hoes And Cutlasses

Re-Obanliku LGC Chairman, Hon Margaret Inde Empowers Farmers With Yam, Hoes And Cutlasses

    By Ben Amawu Esq

IN RESPONSE TO THE MISCONCEIVED NOTION/FALSEHOOD.

Please note that Friday 27th August, 2021 was the 30th Anniversary of Obanliku LGA and the occasion was celebrated alongside the Obanliku New Yam Festival, which is one of the foremost annual cultural ceremony in the LGA.

During the just concluded festival/celebration, several cultural & traditional rites/rituals were performed as outlined by the Traditional Ruling Council under the leadership of the Paramount Ruler in his esteem capacity as the custodian of our great culture.

Thus, vide the fiat of the Traditional Rulers, under the leadership of the Paramount Ruler, Ten (10) persons (not just the Youths, as erroneously speculated), were nominated as representatives from the various ten wards in the LGA and authorised under the seal of His Royal Highness forthwith, to go clear & open up the farm lands with CUTLASS, till the ground with the HOE & plant YAM(s) and crops for the purpose of ensuring that during the next festival in 2022, the LGA shall accordingly enjoy bountiful harvest.

The CUTLASS, HOE & YAM were overtly symbolic & nothing more. Before I proceed, please note that the word “Empowered” as used by the Chairman’s aid in the circumstance, connotes “giving someone authority or power to do something”. The Oxford Dictionary amply supports the said meaning. Same could not have been misconstrued outside the context.

Clearly, the symbolic royal authority bestowed on farmers to go and make exploit in our farm lands, cannot under any guise be given any other interpretation and/or colouration as if the event was a “political empowerment” by the Local Government Council. The contrary as posted by mischief makers, cannot be correct in view of the facts and circumstances of the New Yam Ceremony/Festival of Obanliku @30. In all, few persons parading the falsehood, are merely seeking to cajole the image of the entire LGA into disrepute.

For the records, the pictures showing the Local Government Chairman (Hon. Mrs. Margaret Inde) & Barr. Dan Iyo, were merely captured pursuant to the fact the these two, were jointlty saddled with the responsibility of distributing the items and not the other way round as misrepresented. From the background, the Paramount Ruler and other Chiefs were directly behind the aforementioned persons, having directed accordingly.

Further note that this lone exercise, which has since been blown out of proportion, was part of other activities. In other words, it was not an event aimed at an empowering any person or any youth as ill-informed. Infact, prior to the distribution of the aforementioned items, the Royal father(s) had unveiled the new yam(s), equally, they had taken time to go round & bless the indigenes & invited guest at event.

Suffice to bring fore the fact that one of the high point activity at the said festival was the Launching of an Education Trust Fund for the OBANLIKU CHILD EDUCATION, the Launching was done following an unveiling of the communique forwarded by the stakeholders, through Obanliku Development Association (ODA), thereby, calling the Local Government Council attention on need to promote education in area. During the Launching, Barr. Dan Iyo (aka Dan Urubulam) donated the sum of N1 Million Naira, whereas Capt. Ogogo & the Local Government Chairman (Hon. Margret Inde) in her personal capacity, equally donated the sum 500k (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) respectively, other donors include; Rt. Hon. Maurice Evey & Com. Akah Pius of the Youth Council, donated the sum 50k (Fifty Thousand Naira) each. Worthy of note, is the fact that Mr. Akpanke of the Akpanke’s Foundation also donated books the ceremony and further undertake to sponsor scholarship of 10 persons across the 10 wards for a period of 10 years. Notwithstanding this very exceptional part of the event, same was never mentioned by those seeking to blackmail the goodwill exhibited by few individuals at the event. Assuming without conceeding that, the occasion was indeed a political empowerment perse, will it not have been possible to channel the sum/resources in that regard as a means of making the purported “empowerment” loud? Your guess is good as mind. Thus, any false information to the contrary as in this case, should be condemned in its entirety.

I say this with every sense of responsibility, that the event could not have been a political outing, thus, to creat any negative impression that the cutlass, hoe and yam was an “empowerment” with political undertone, is aptly false. Whoever is behind this sort of information is undoubtedly being economical with the truth as per the cultural ceremony held at the instance of Obanliku indigenes, irrespective political affiliation.

Unfortunately, the crux of what is necessitating this falsehood, is the fact that, as at today, almost everything is politicised.

Today, “certificated” illiterates or those who do not want to work/strive through the ranks, will stop at nothing just to ridicule others as source of livelihood. These persons, are professional political propagandist, often ready and willing to defame other right thinking men/women in the society, just to gather cheap popularity or in the alternative, secure a regular meal ticket. I rather will enjoin all our leaders vis-a-vis political office seekers to flee from such rascals in your own interest & goodwill, hence, they actually don’t wish you well.

In view of the above, please jettison any misconceived notion/falsehood, seeking to deride the entire Obanliku LGA and/or the personality of the Local Government Chairman, alongside, the iconic gentleman (Barr. Dan) who is also seen in the picture(s)/story that has been escalated.

It will interest us all to note that beyond Party Politics, Obanliku is undoubtedly, blessed with a very rich cultural/traditional heritage.

Finally, my reaction herein, has become necessary in view of the the ultimate false information being paraded vide various social media platforms.

Cross River APC Ward Congresses Marred With Irregularities – Odey Oyama In A Petition

By Sylvia Felix And Abuh Rachael, In CrossRiverWatch

The recently concluded APC ward congresses in Cross River State has been said to be “seriously marred with widespread irregularities, malpractices, corruption and blatant disregard for the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Mr. Odey Oyama in a complaint to the APC Ward Congress Appeals Committee said, the outcome of the exercise carried out in the 196 political wards in the State, July 10, 2021 and July 31, 2021 is fake.

According to him, “To prevent a multiplicity of Court actions provoked by this unwholesome outcome, it has become pertinent to recommend the nullification of the fake results/lists of Ward Executive Committees that were presented to the Governor and the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), in respect of the said events. This conclusion constitute the principal focus of this complaint based on the following principal grounds.”

  • Goddy Jedy-Agba At 63: The Man, The Technocrat And The Performing Minister/Politician

Goddy Jedy-Agba At 63: The Man, The Technocrat And The Performing Minister/Politician

    By Kinsley Agim

For a lot of young people, Goddy Jeddy-Agba was the man with a nice set of dentition and son of, arguably, the longest-serving monarch in Africa, who abandoned his sterling career and glorious office in 2013 at the rank of Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division of the NNPC to pursue a gubernatorial ambition, whenever his name seemed to be mentioned in public. However, there is more to Goddy Jeddy-Agba as a person – a lot more than meets the eye. For his sixty-third birthday, we take a brief look at his life through a few lenses that apply to him.
    The Man
Goddy, the first child was born into a royal family in Obudu on 20th August, 1958 by Uti J.D. Agba, the paramount ruler of Obudu, Cross River State. After scaling through primary and secondary education, he bagged his first degree in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State in 1983. His burning desire for scholarship led him to University of Lagos, Akoka for his master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy in 1989.
His massive contributions to nationhood and nation building prompted the then President Goodluck Jonathan on September 2012 to honour him as an Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR). His autobiography, “Stepping Forward with Uti J.D. Agba,” in November 2017, reflected on the influence of his father on his life from childhood.
    The Technocrat
Goddy Jedy-Agba’s humble beginnings started at the Federal civil service in September 1984 as an Assistant Secretary II. He was posted as a senior assistant secretary to the Federal Development Authority (FDA) in Lagos on October 1985. In the same office, he was promoted to the post of Deputy Liaison officer in 1987. He became the Personal Assistant to the Minister of Special Duties under the presidency, state house-Lagos. Through dint of hard work and commitment to duty, in 1989, Jedy-Agba was selected as personal assistant to the minister of Special Duties under the Presidency; he was moved to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Personal Assistant to the Minister of State on Foreign Affairs in December 1990. He was on this position till 1993 when he became the Personal Assistant to the Secretary of the State till 1995 when he joined Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC). At NNPC, he rose to become the Head Market Research, Crude Oil Marketing Department and later became the Head Gas/Gas Liquids/Condensate Sales, Crude Oil Marketing Department in 2014, a position he held until he left NNPC to join politics in his state.
    The Performing Minister
Undaunted by the his unsuccessful quest for the governorship seat in 2015, being a man who lives out my life as Providence decrees, he was nominated for ministerial position by President Muhammadu Buhari in July, and later assigned the portfolio of Minister of State, Power on 21 August 2019. And not forgetting the thundering ovation that greeted his performance during the nominees’ screening in the hallowed chambers of the Nigerian senate.
Immediately after his inauguration, Jedy-Agba hit the strides with the exuberance of a youthful teenager. He got to work. And barely two years on the saddle as Minister of State for Power, through giant strides and eloquence testimonies, the Utugwuan-born politician has endeared himself to the politically-conscious Nigerians as a darling of the nation, having orchestrated the successful completion of impactful projects in all geo-political zones of Nigeria.
To buttress my above point, may I outline some of Jedy-Agba’s achievements according to geo-political zones:

    NORTH CENTRAL ZONE
Installation of 8.25MW Solar Hybrid Project at Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi, in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State; 80KWp Solar Mini grid at Upake Village, Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State; Supply and installation of 1,135 Units of 40W Solar Hybrid Station in Mbaka-ange Village, Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State; Supply and Installation of 1000 Units of 15W Solar hybrid station in Alu-Mamagi and Nuku villages in Abaji Local Government Area in FCT Abuja; and Installation of 157KW Capacity Solar Hybrid Mini-grid Power Plant in Rokoto village in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.

Not to mention the far-flung and hard-to-reach communities in the entire nation.
A fortnight ago during his two years anniversary celebration as Minister of State for Power, the media was awashed with glowing plaudits to Jedy-Agba from across the nation, much to my admiration and pride as a fellow Cross Riverian. And without an iota of consternation, prejudice or disquietude, Goddy Jedy-Agba would go down history as one of the best performing political appointee from Cross River State, nay Nigeria.
To a proud Cross River State son, bureaucrat, politician, farmer, author philanthropist, former Group general manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division, Nigerian National Petroleum Company and now Minister of State for Power, I wish him more eventful years full of good health, longevity, sagacity and service to humanity. Happy birthday, our dear Goddy Jedy-Agba.
