Just In: Unical Security Arrest Two Thieves, Recovers Students Items

The Security operative in the University of Calabar has arrested two thieves who stole electrical appliances including pressing iron, bulbs and lamp holders at the students hostel.

They were arrested during a stop-and-search by security personnel on campus.

The thorough stop-and-search of all vehicles entering the campus and those going out, including a steady patrol on campus by security operatives are some of the measures put in place by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, to safeguard students and staff on campus including the critical infrastructure.

During the arrest, they both confessed that the items were stolen from the hostel.

Sadly, the two of them were hired as part of the work force for the ongoing renovation work in the hostel, and after close of work, they decided to get into the hostel to cart away some of the items.

They have been handed over to the police for further interrogation and prosecution.

  • Ebonyi PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman Addressed Press At Wadata House, Abuja

Ebonyi PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman Addressed Press At Wadata House, Abuja

    By PDP Press

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen of the Press and welcome to the Press conference of the Ebonyi State Chapter of the PDP. This Press conference is going on in Wadata House partly because, as you all know, the Ebonyi State PDP leadership is a caretaker committee created by the National Executive Committee of our great Party to superintend the affairs of the Party in Ebonyi State, until a formal congress is conducted to elect competent men and women who will lead the Party in Ebonyi State.

Ever since our inauguration in this same hall on the 23rd day of November 2020, we have steered the affairs of our great Party in Ebonyi State with dedication and commitment. With the support and collaboration of our stakeholders, we have stabilised the Party, given a sense of hope and direction to our teeming members, and for the first time in a long time, members are having a breath of fresh air. I am, therefore, very proud to announce to you that it is a new dawn for the Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State.

STATE SPONSORED LITIGATIONS AGAINST THE PDP IN EBONYI STATE

Ever since Governor Dave Umahi’s solo defection from the PDP to the APC, our great Party has been inundated with a slew of state sponsored court actions all aimed at derailing the Caretaker Committee set up by the NEC of our great Party. As we all know, Governor Dave Umahi’s illusion had been that Ebonyi people would defect with him to the APC. He had boasted that PDP stakeholders and members of the National Assembly would defect with him. When this failed, the reaction from Governor Umahi has been to derail and destroy the Caretaker Committee by filing a suit at the State High Court, asking the Court not to recognise this Caretaker Committee. A summary of the history of this suit, No. HAB/161/2020 is that three Ebonyi State High Court judges have recused themselves from handling the case. However, the latest recusal by Justice Vincent Nwanchor on Wednesday, the 20th January 2021, did not go down well with Governor Dave Umahi. Apparently believing that Ebonyi State Judges must do his bidding no matter the frivolity or unconstitutional nature of their claim, Governor Umahi instigated his “Akubaraoha” mob to attack the High Court premises. In an attack reminiscent of the Trump-inspired storming of the US Capitol, Governor Umahi instigated a mob to take over the High Court premises at Abakaliki. Lives of lawyers and judges were put at risk. Property belonging to Ebonyi State judiciary was destroyed. It took the efforts of the Ebonyi State Police Command and other security Agencies to restore calm and prevent the complete burning down of the Ebonyi State High Court complex.

VICTORY FOR PDP AND THE URGENT NEED FOR GOVERNOR DAVE UMAHI AND HIS APC THUGS TO VACANT THE EABONYI STATE PDP SECRETARIAT.

I am proud to inform you that in a twist of fate, as Governor Dave Umahi unleashed his mob to burn down the Ebonyi State High Court complex, here in Abuja, it was victory for the PDP in suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1609/2020, HON. FRED UDOGU and 10 others V Barr Onyekachi Nwebonyi and 4 others. In that suit, Justice I. E. EKWO of the Abuja Federal High Court gave an order restraining Dave Umahi’s faction of the PDP led by Barr Onyekachi Nwebonyi from parading themselves as officers of the Party.

With this legitimate order of a court of competent jurisdiction, it is hoped that Governor Dave Umahi will step back a bit and have a deep reflection and discontinue fanning the embers of crisis in Ebonyi State.

We wish to use this opportunity to call on the Inspector General of Police, the Director of State Security Services to protect the members and legitimate officers of the PDP in Ebonyi State, and hold Governor Dave Umahi accountable for any break down of law and order in Ebonyi State. Governor Dave Umahi’s goal is to control PDP and APC in Ebonyi State by sheer brute force. But the good people of Ebonyi State who are predominantly members of the PDP, are not prepared to be victims of brute force and dictatorship, and will continue to fight for their political freedom. Thank you for honouring our Press conference and may God continued to bless our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party.

    Chief Fred Udeogu,
    Chairman, PDP Ebonyi State.

  • Christiano Ronaldo Breaks Record, Becomes All Time Top Goal Scorer

Christiano Ronaldo Breaks Record, Becomes All Time Top Goal Scorer

    By Admin

Cristiano Ronaldo has made in history to become the all-time top goalscorer in football after he scored for Juventus in it clash against Napoli.

The 35-year-old was expected to reach the stunning landmark against Inter on Sunday after edging closer to history by scoring against Sassuolo last week to level to record but failed to get on the score sheet in the 2-0 loss.

Instead, the legendary Juve forward waited for the big occasion in the Italian Super Cup and duly delivered against Gennaro Gattuso’s men as he found the back of the net in the 64th minute sending his special career to new incredible heights. A corner was swung over and Napoli fluffed their lines leaving Ronaldo with the perfect opportunity to thump into the net left-footed.

That effort moved him above Josef Bican with the Austrian-Czech striker scoring 759 goals between 1931 and 1955.

Only his eternal rival Lionel Messi looks capable of surpassing his record. The Barcelona and Argentina superstar has 715 career goals for club and country but has played just under 150 games fewer so far and, being two years Ronaldo’s junior, has time on his side.

However, for now this record belongs to Ronaldo. The forward, who turns 36 on February 5, has written his name in the record books across a career that has seen him excel at Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Portugal.

On January 3, Ronaldo moved himself above three-time Brazil World Cup winner Pele (757 career goals) into second on this list following a brace in a 4-1 Serie A home win over Udinese

  • 13-yr-old Girl Jumps Down From Two-storey Building In Aba To Evade Punishment — NSCDC

13-yr-old Girl Jumps Down From Two-storey Building In Aba To Evade Punishment — NSCDC

    Culled From Vanguard

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Abia has rescued 13-year-old Uduak Willy, a house help, who reportedly jumped down from a two-storey building to evade punishment for alleged pilfering.

The State Commandant of the corps, Mr Vincent Ogu, said this on Tuesday in his office in Umuahia, while briefing newsmen about the incident, which happened on January 8 at No. 204 Niger Stone on Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway (near Ariaria Market, Aba), where Willy lived with a businessman, Emeka Igwe and his wife, Aniekan.

Ogu said the girl took the desperate action after she was accused of stealing N500 from the house and allegedly subjected to serious beating by Igwe and his wife.

The commandant said that Igwe, along with his mother-in-law, 50-year-old Christiana Godwin, were “arrested for their alleged involvement in child-trafficking, child-labour, domestic violence and attempted murder.”

He said that the command was alerted about the ugly incident by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Teenage Matters, Mrs Chinemenma Umesaka.

“When I got the disturbing information on the ordeal of the girl from Umesaka, I quickly mobilised my men and ordered them to rescue the victim and arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly and inhuman act against the minor,” he said.

He expressed delight that Igwe was eventually lured out from his hiding and arrested by the Aba Divisional Officer, SP Uche Uduma, to face justice for his action.

Ogu said that the command later took the victim to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where she underwent a series of tests, including chest X-Ray, Abdomen Ultrasound and C.T Scan for the head, to ascertain if she suffered any internal injuries.

Also, the governor’s aide, who condemned the ill-treatment meted to the girl, said the incident was made public via the social media.

She said that the Wife of the Governor, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu, drew her attention to the online video and directed her to take the issue up with the NSCDC, in order to rescue the girl and bring the suspects to book.

She alleged that the suspect relocated out of Abia and went into hiding on the heels of the incident and turned down her request to handover the girl to her office for appropriate medicare.

Narrating her ordeal to newsmen, the victim, who said that she came to live with Igwe’s family in November, denied stealing the money.

She also denied being pushed down by Igwe as alleged in the social media, saying that she took to her heels from the house and jumped down from the building to escape a further beating.

Igwe and his wife admitted beating her as a measure to make her admit stealing the money but denied pushing her down from the building.

Igwe also denied going into hiding, saying that he took the girl to a clinic for treatment immediately after the incident.

The girl was said to have been brought to the couple from Ododo in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom by Igwe’s mother-in-law through the help of one Mbakara.

The commandant, however, said the circumstances surrounding the process of her coming to Abia suggested: “she might have been a victim of child trafficking.”

Meanwhile, he said the matter would be handed over to the appropriate agency for diligent prosecution at the end of the investigations.

He admonished couples to always treat their house helps with love and like their own children, saying, “let us do unto others as we would want them to do unto us.”

He promised that the command would continue to collaborate with relevant agencies in Abia in the fight against child abuse, child trafficking, illegal adoption, child labour and molestation.
