The Cross River State Government has announced plans to embark on a statewide on-the-spot assessment of all communities affected by natural disasters to determine the extent of damage and facilitate appropriate government intervention.
The Director-General of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (CR-SEMA), Mr. Efa Nyong, disclosed this while receiving the Vice Chairmen of the eighteen Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state, who also serve as Chairmen of their respective Local Government Emergency Management Committees.
Mr. Nyong assured victims of natural disasters across the state that the administration of Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu remains committed to providing timely support and relief to affected communities.
According to him, the planned assessment will enable the government to accurately evaluate the impact of disasters and ensure that relief materials and other forms of assistance are delivered to those in need.
He emphasized that the initiative is part of the state’s commitment to strengthening disaster response mechanisms and improving the welfare of citizens affected by emergencies.
Speaking on behalf of the Forum of Vice Chairmen, the Chairperson, Hon. Princess Christina Archibong Eso, commended Governor Bassey Otu for his leadership and for appointing Mr. Nyong as Director-General of CR-SEMA.
She noted that under his leadership, the Agency has remained proactive in promoting disaster prevention, preparedness, and response through sustained public sensitization, while ensuring that relief assistance reaches victims whenever disasters occur.
Hon. Archibong also pledged the Forum’s continued support and collaboration with CR-SEMA, assuring the Director-General that Vice Chairmen across the state’s eighteen Local Government Areas would work closely with the Agency to ensure the successful implementation of its programmes and the effective delivery of emergency interventions to disaster-affected communities.
The planned statewide assessment is expected to provide the government with firsthand information on the scale of damage across affected communities, enabling it to design targeted interventions and strengthen disaster management efforts across Cross River State.
