    The Senator representing Central Senatorial District of Cross River state, Sen. Sandy Onor and his Special Adviser on Student affairs, Mr. Emmanual Obeten has been extolled by students of the senatorial district for their giant strides and excellent performances for the growth of Cross River central.
    The students described the senator as a man who understands the plight of his people and proffers solutions to the myriads of challenges that beclouds them.

    The students gave the commendations in appreciation for the lawmaker’s continuous support to the welfare of students in Cross River Central, at the reception organized by the SA on Students Affairs to the senator, shortly after the matriculation ceremony of the newly admitted students of the Cross River State College of Health Technology, Calabar, today February, 25th 2021.

    Speaking to The Lumine News after the matriculation ceremony, the President of Central Senatorial Students Assembly of College of Health Technology, Calabar Chapter, Mr. Clement Bisong who spoke on behalf of the students appreciated Senator Onor for always identifying with the student anytime he is called upon.

    “I want to thank the senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District for the gifts he presented to us, the students are very happy and we really appreciate him for being with us”, he expressed.

    He wished the newly matriculated students well and success throughout their stay in school. He encouraged them to make hard work their watchword as to excel in their academic pursuits.

    On his part, the President of Central Senatorial Students, UNICROSS chapter, Mr. Bitty Divine Amba was pleased with the Special Adviser to Senator Onor, for his kind gesture to the students, especially for organizing the reception as well as giving them opportunity to be at the matriculation ceremony. He averred that the students were happy to welcome the SA to the Senator.

    He added that it is a privilege to have a good man like senator Onor represent them at the national assembly. He used the opportunity to call on the senator not to relent in his good works, but continue to provide the needed representation to the central senatorial district, and prayed God to continue to be with the senator as he continue to discharge his duties to the best of his abilities.

    Speaking earlier, the Special Adviser to Sen. Onor on Student Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Obeten charged the students to take their studies very serious and avoid engaging in any act capable of exposing them to danger as well as social vices like sexual misconduct, cultism and drug abuse.

    He urged them to maintain the tempo their senior colleagues have established by ensuring that Cross River Central students do exploits in their academic endeavours.

    Obeten maintained that “we deemed it fit to celebrate with the new students as a show of our love for them.

    “Senator Sandy Onor is a man of his words which has made many describe him as the original caterpillar. He has the interest of his constituents at heart and will continue to provide the needed platform for his people to realize their potentials.

    The SA assured them of his continuous support as far as they remain good ambassadors of Cross River Central.

    Highlights of the ceremony was distribution of exercise books and refreshments for the students and group photograph.

    The apex court in the land, the Supreme Court has declared Rt. Hon Jarigbe Agom, Winner of the PDP CRnorth Senatorial bye-election primary.

    The judgment was delivered today, February 25th, 2021.

    This has put to permanent rest the controversy of who is the authentic senator representing Cross River Northern senatorial district.

    The FCT High Court and the Court of Appeal had declared Rt. Hon. Jarigbe Agom winner of the CR North primary election.

    Dissatisfied with the ruling of the court of Appeal and the trial court, Dr. Stephen Odey approached the Supreme claiming that he was the legitimate winner of the primaries.

    Delivering the judgment, four out the seven man panel, gave judgement in favour of Sen. Jarigbe Agom while three backed Dr. Stephen Odey.

    In telephone chat with The Lumine News, Prince K J Agba congratulated Sen. Jarigbe Agom for his dogged disposition to resit the attempt of foisting someone on the good people of northern senatorial district and described the ruling as victory for the people.

    The reconciliation and steering committee of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, headed by the former Senate President and two terms governor of Kwara state, senator Bukola Saraki is poised to rebrand the party ahead of 2023 general elections.

    Senator Bukola Saraki is seen lately spearheading the reconciliation of aggrieved party members as well as stakeholders within the party with the view to resolving all pending issues.

    He has visited the former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, where the former president restated his commitment to the ideals and rebuilding the party.

    Dr. Bukola Saraki took to his verified Facebook page where averred that his committee met with former governors elected under the platform of the PDP.

    He said “This afternoon, members of the #PDPReconciliation & Strategy Committee and I, are at Legacy House in Abuja, meeting with a cross-section of former Governors elected under the platform of our great party, the PDP”.

    SARS Officer Sentenced To Death For Killing Boy And Stealing His N300k

     

    An Edo Criminal High Court of Justice has sentenced to death by hanging, a dismissed Police Constable, Joseph Omotosho, attached to the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squared, SARS, of Lagos State Police Command.

    Omotosho was found guilty alongside Corporals Adeleke Adedeji, Abena John, Oniyo Musa and Henry Shobowole who escaped during the Benin Jail breaks occasioned by the recent #EndSARS protest.

    Benson Obodeh, 26, was reportedly arrested at his home on May 21, 2015 and same day after his arrest, the news of his death filtered in, after he was suspected to have undergone a subjected torture that led to his death.

    Investigation had revealed that the police took the suspect’s ATM card; after forcefully obtained his pin number before his death and withdrew N330, 000 from his account within four days, leaving a balance of N1, 754.15.

    At the time, the former Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Kenneth Nwosu, had lied that the death of Benson occurred as a result of mob attack when he was arrested by neighbours in Benin.

    “It was a case of mob action and the police had to rescue him, on the way to the hospital, he died and the corpse has been deposited at the mortuary in Benin City. We are investigating the circumstances that led to his death as well as the result of the autopsy. What I can tell you now is that he was an armed robber,” DSP Nwosu explained.

    However, his family were able to trace his corpse to the Specialist Hospital, Benin, where it was discovered that one Corporal Oniya Musa deposited his remains with the name: “Agwu instead of Benson Obodeh.

    Autopsy later revealed that he was tortured and eventually died from injury sustained leading to heart and kidney failure. The Government of Edo State has since launched manhunt for the other fleeing policemen. 📸: NationalWire

    One of Nigeria’s leading universities, Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Benin, Edo State is set to honour the Honourable Minister of State for Power, Goddy Jedy Agba, OFR with an Honourary Doctorate Degree.

    This was disclosed when a delegation from the University, led by the Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof. Sam Guobadia paid a courtesy call on the Minister in his office in Abuja on Tuesday, February 15th.

    The VC explained that the Minister was chosen having met the stringent conditions set up by the University for an award of an Honourary Doctorate Degree.

    According to him, “We have been watching you because we have stringent conditions on who to contact, meet and honour.

    As contained in our earlier letter to you and signed by the Chancellor of the University, Most Rev. Margaret E. Benson – Idahosa, we have taken notice of your personality even outside public office and observed your commitment to excellence and the fact that you are concerned about the upliftment and empowerment of the common man. This tallies with the aspiration of the founding Archbishop and Chancellor, Archbishop Benson Idahosa. We must state at this point that you are a pride to South-South.

    “It is with great pleasure that we will like to communicate to you that you have been nominated for the award of an Honourary Doctorate Degree during our next convocation”.

    Speaking about the challenges facing the University, Prof. Guobadia noted that “we are always creativite driven especially with the introduction of more private Universities and the problem of top teaching staff as well as infrastructural development, when we meet people like you, we crave for partnership.

    As a University, we play a critical role in training man power across different sectors of the economy. So, we want people like you to partner with us to help improve on these areas”.

    Responding, the Minister said that he was excited that his contribution to society was appreciated by a renowned University like BIU.

    While promising to look into the university’s area of needs to explore possibilities of partnership, he added that “I’m very interested in human capital development and when you were talking, I heard you mentioned Law. My wife is a Lawyer and I also have a son who is a Lawyer. So, law is also of interest to me.

    “My Ministry through the Rural Electrification Agency is running a programme called Energizing Education which is aimed at lightening up university as well as providing basic infrastructures for the training of students in solar energy technology. I would like us to work closely to conceptualize things like this to see what we can do together”.

    BIU, a privately owned university is the only university in Nigeria and Africa with international membership with the United States National Academy of Inventors.

    Efekwo, community in Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State has allegedly banned married women from wearing trousers, mini-skirts and other see-through-dresses. Idoma Voice reported.

    According to a Facebook user who shared the news on the platform, the community has initiated a law forbidding women from wearing trousers and mini-skirts.

    The Facebook user with the username James Anyebe wrote; “The supreme council has initiated a law forbidding married women from wearing Trousers and Mini-skirts in EFEKWO.”

    The news got mixed reactions. Replying to the post, a Facebook user, Akor John wrote; “Hope the initiators of this law you guys are celebrating understand what fundamental human rights are? The Constitution of Nigeria reign supreme if there are contradictions. I don’t celebrate what will not last. This is my candid shot.”

    Another Facebook user, John O Adoyi wrote; “Is a good development. However, the Council would have allow their consciences to guide and judge them. “Personal opinion”.

    Lending his opinion, Adoyi Gideon wrote; “Even in sharia law immorality & extra marital affairs still abound. Trousers, shorts, mini-wares, wrappers, sexy-dress & corporate/native outfits has nothing wrong on their own. If used with all sense of decency & modesty either privately or publicly according to functions with reverence to God’s law and unlawful seduction . _Personal Opinion.”

    That law looks like Sharia law or have they Islamized Efekwo too?”

    Another Facebook user, Mary Ameh Ocheme wrote: “Let them make sure they buy rappers and share for the married women from time to time, i hate what i dont like.”

    Efekwo is a community in Otukpa, the headquarter of Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State. It is the seat of Federal Medical Center, Makurdi, Efekwo outreach center.

    The community leaders are yet to react to the report making rounds on the new media, as at the time of filing this report as efforts to reach the Benue state Commissioner of Culture, Tourism and Chieftaincy Affairs has not yielded any result.

    The Honourable Minister of State for Power, Goddy Jedy Agba, OFR has assured partners and investors of favourable policies and business – friendly environments for investment in the power sector.

    The Minister gave the assurances when a team of German partners lead by Ina Hommer, Country Director, German International Cooperation (GIZ) visit him in his office in Abuja, earlier today.

    The Head of Programme, Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), Duke Benjamin was also part of the team that met the Minister.

    While encouraging the partners and other investors to see Nigeria as Africa investment hub, the Minister added that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has introduced many favourable policies to water the ground for foreign and local investors in the power sector.

    Agba, however urged the team to work more closely with him for the smooth implementation of their programmes in the country.

    According to him, “I welcome you to my office and thank you for coming. Our government is very open for partnership and investment in the power sector.

    The President has tasked us with the responsibility of ensuring that the power situation in the country improves and from what we have been doing, we have recorded remarkable achievements.

    “I want to assure you that Nigeria is running favourable policies and has business-friendly environment that partners and investors can take advantage of to do business in the power sector”.

    Earlier, the Country Director, Hommer said that the NEPS which is co-funded by the European Union and German Government has carried out several projects to increase electricity supply to rural areas in the country.

    She said that “between 2013-2018, NESP reached more than 15,000 people with solar-powered mini-grids that blend finance from public and private investors”.

    She added that “NESP supported the implementation of energy efficient pilot projects in public and industry buildings which led to energy savings of 15% in the country”.

    While pledging that the German Cooperation through NESP will continue to invest in the power sector in the country, she however appealed to the Minister to continue to woo investors to the sector.

    “From what you have done so far, we want to encourage you to continue to work to draw more investors to the sector, especially the renewable energy. Use your institutional powers to connect with other ministries to also emphasize investment in sustainable renewable energy “.

    Also speaking, the NESP Head of Programme, Benjamin promised to work closely with the Minister and his team to provide technical support to promote investments in the domestic market for renewable energy.

    The Chairman of Obanliku LGC, Evang Margaret Inde, today, February 16th 2021, presented the 2021 Appropriation Bill to the legislature

    Presenting the budget at the Obanliku legislative chambers, the Chairman reiterated that “our vision to be a leading Local Government Area in Cross River State in education and in the provision of a harmonious environment for tourism, commercial agriculture, and to develop into a vision-driven medium term plan as encapsulated in the Obanliku Local Government Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (LEEDS), clearly expresses our developmental needs.

    “Consequently, we have proposed a budget of Seven Billion, Five Hundred and Fifty four Million, One Hundred and Seventy Two Thousand, Six Hundred and Twelve Naira (N7,544,172,612) only.

    “The objective of this budget which I christened ‘Budget of Hope and Light’ will rekindle the hope of our people for a better life, sustained by good governance and accountable leadership.

    “In our quest to bring development to Obanliku, the sum of Five Billion, Five Hundred and Eighty-eight Million, Ninety-eight Thousand, Four Hundred and Ninety-eight Naira (N5,588,098,498) only, which represents 74.07% of the total budgetary outlay is earmarked for capital development”

    The Chairman stressed that “it is the collective desire of our people to see the transformation of our Local Government Area through the provision of basic infrastructures, being the focus of this administration”

    She averred that “Based on this conviction, Projects that would satisfy the felt needs of our people and uplift the status of the Local Government Area in the various sectors would be accorded priority attention this fiscal year”
