JariLeague Coalition, Stakeholders Endorse Tinubu, Otu, Jarigbe For 2027

    By Judex Okoro

A coalition of political stakeholders in Cross River North Senatorial District, under the banner of JARILEAGUE, has endorsed the re election bids of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Bassey Otu and Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement followed an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held in Calabar, where participants reviewed the performance of the three leaders and expressed satisfaction with their impact.

Speaking at the meeting, the coordinator of the coalition, Professor Egaga Patrick of the University of Calabar, said the decision was reached after a thorough and objective assessment.

“Our decision is based on a careful evaluation of their performance, commitment and impact on the people. We stand behind leaders who deliver and have shown capacity to sustain progress,” he said.

Patrick noted that despite prevailing economic and social challenges, there had been visible improvements across key sectors.

“Significant strides have been recorded in infrastructure, education and economic development, particularly in road connectivity and interventions that support local economies,” he added.

The coalition said its endorsement was driven by measurable achievements in governance, including inclusive policies and grassroots development.

Also speaking, community leader and former Permanent Secretary, Ntufam Effenji Odey, commended the trio for prioritising youth development.

“The increased access to education through scholarships and bursaries is a clear investment in the future of our young people and leadership pipeline,” he said.

In his remarks, Professor Jacob Owan of the University of Calabar described the endorsement as a reflection of growing public confidence in the leadership of the three office holders.

“This endorsement reflects the confidence of the people in purposeful leadership. Their policies and programmes have laid a solid foundation for sustainable growth,” he stated.

He added, “Our decision is driven by the visible scorecard of the trio, which demonstrates their commitment to addressing longstanding challenges, from basic amenities to infrastructure gaps in our communities.”

Professor Anthony Bullem also highlighted what he described as consistency in governance, particularly in human capital development.

“They have shown capacity and consistency in governance. Continued investment in education and other critical sectors will yield long term benefits,” he said.

Barrister Gabriel Oko, in his contribution, stressed the need for continuity to consolidate ongoing reforms.

“This endorsement is both timely and necessary. Continuity in leadership will strengthen policy implementation and safeguard the gains already recorded,” he noted.

The coalition also pointed to key initiatives of the federal government, including infrastructure projects, tax reforms and the removal of fuel subsidy.

“These policies are repositioning the national economy and laying the groundwork for long term stability,” the group stated.

At the state level, the stakeholders praised Governor Otu’s reforms in education and public service delivery.

“We commend the establishment of a University of Education and Entrepreneurship, the payment of WAEC fees, regular salaries and pensions, and the revival of strategic assets such as Tinapa and Obudu Ranch Resort,” the coalition said.

On Senator Jarigbe, the group highlighted constituency projects across the district.

“At least one project has been executed or is ongoing in each of the 54 political wards, covering infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and human capital development,” it noted.Politics

Reaffirming its position, the coalition declared its support for the trio as firm and unanimous.

“Our position is clear and irreversible. Having assessed their sincerity of purpose and dedication to the people, we fully support their re election,” the group stated.

The meeting ended with a call for unity among stakeholders and a commitment by the coalition to mobilise support for the endorsed candidates to sustain development across Cross River North, the state and the country.

The group, which comprises over one hundred members, includes professors, senior academics, retired civil servants and political appointees drawn from within and outside the state.

    “A Piece of My Thoughts.

“My dear good people of Cross River North,

“As we embark on this re-election journey, I thank you deeply for your unwavering support, but today, I must speak plainly to you about the path we must take.

“I am aware that emotions run high. Our opponents, including my brother, former Governor, Senator Ben Ayade, are formidable. I charge you: do not use uncouth words against any aspirant. No insult, no personal attack, no abusive language. We are better than that. Our campaign will be defined by ideas, not insults.

“Furthermore, I demand that you respect the Seat of Governor, whether serving or former, regardless of who occupies it. Whether you believe the former Governor performed or underperformed, that office commands our collective dignity. No man is infallible. We all have strengths and weaknesses. “Finally, we remain one united APC family. Even as we further our divergent interests within this primary, we must never forget that after the votes are counted, we will still need each other. No ambition is worth destroying the conviviality we have shared amongst one another.

“Campaign with passion, but campaign with honour.

“Thank you, and God bless Cross River North and the entire Cross River State.

    Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe

  • Between Jarigbe And Ayade, The Story Of Light And Darkness BY DOMINIC KIDZU

Between Jarigbe And Ayade, The Story Of Light And Darkness BY DOMINIC KIDZU

Put away the tough talk and bombast, the flash champagne and glitterati. Forget the tokunbo cars and the usual motorcycles for a moment.

Just place Senator Jarigbe Agom and Senator Ben Ayade on a fair and square scale and tell yourself what you see. Can you not see a community asset and a fast guy? Can you not see a genuine leader and a dramatic gooble the gook?

Or just imagine for a moment that the universe forces you to make a compulsory choice between Jarigbe and Ayade, and you are blind from birth like a bat. So you run your fingers through their faces and bodice. Who would you chose, because blind eyes can also verily see.

Some choices are like day and night. Not really difficult to make. Even a thoroughly reformed and rejigged Ben Ayade, will still be Ben Ayade. Fast talk. Big grammar. Tall promises. A new dance style or two. Even a drop of tear or two as well. And the curtain is drawn on the stage.

All these would be farce. Just melodrama, to hoodwink and to befuddle. By far the biggest apple on the political dinning table is state governorship. If you couldn’t do anything with it, you couldn’t do anything with God’s throne either. Just take a frech leave and stay in bed forever. Because, as Nyesom Wike has taught us, if it didn’t de, it didn’t de.

In political office, what you really need is genuine desire and passion to assist, to change lives and to impact. If all you genuinely and passionately care about is the enrichment of yourself and your family, then, brother-man, you are at the wrong address. Just keep moving.

See what difference Governor Bassey Otu has made in just under three years as governor! Not show business, but real, purposeful grinding work at the forge. Dead bodies and tragedies have come back to life. Hope is restored and all his promises are steadily being kept. This is leadership.

Ayade left a gargantuan behemoth of dead projects behind his unfortunate reign. Broken promises still litter the floor of Cross River State as he faded away from the stage. Governmental systems and conventions were blatantly trampled upon until the locusts left the city.

What else does Ben Ayade want? By Jove this man has a lot of courage to still be able to do the double-shuffle and show his face around! Is he not the man who shut Cross Riverians out of the stadium for Governor Otu’s inauguration because he felt unsafe? When a leader begins to hide from the people then he has himself passed the verdict on his own reign.

So what has now changed outside his feeling of deja vu for the bright lights and awe that power brought him which he must now rue in many a lonesome night. All he ever wanted was money and he now should have it. If he wanted relevance then he should have tried to be a better governor. Be careful what you ask for, because you might just get it.

The people of Cross River North are not daft or ignorant. They will take the cars and bikes with a wry smile and move along, because they know on what side their bread is buttered. Senator Jarigbe Agom is the bread of life that every zone is praying to get a semblance of. He is the real deal. Don’t we know the contenders, pretenders and revisionists?
