  • Ogoja State Creation: Stakeholder Commends Senator Agom

The Convener of Cross River North Development Forum, Mr Ajiwhen MC Olugah has thrown his weight behind the move by Senator Jarigbe Agom supporting the creation of Ogoja State; saying it is urgent and compelling.

Ajiwen said the position by Senator Agom on the Ogoja State addresses the longstanding imbalance in the geopolitical distribution of states in Nigeria; especially Ogoja as the oldest province in the country without the status of a state.

“I thank and congratulate you our dear Senator for once again showing us that you are a Senator with a deep passion for satisfying every request and cries of your people. It is a mark of respect for the desires of his people and it also shows that Senator Jarigbe Agom is a General that leads his soldiers from the front. Jari na man ooh.”

Ajiwen said the people of Cross River North are very proud of Senator Agom’s support for the creation of Ogoja state because he has demonstrated his enormous potentials to lead us from the front.

We commend your populist tendencies to listen to your people at all times. May God continue to bless you abundantly above your enemies, he said.

Recall, the Senator representing Cross River North in Nigeria’s Senate, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, recently said he is fully involved and has endorsed the idea of creating Ogoja State, out of present day Cross River State.

The Senator also came clear that his insistence that Ogoja State be created out of Cross River State, is not an endorsement that seeks to dismember CRS, but a well intentioned endorsement that will take development to one of Nigeria’s oldest province, still largely underdeveloped and marginalised in the scheme of things.

  • I Am Fully Involved, I Have Endorsed The Idea Of Ogoja State – Jarigbe Agom

    Culled from Caliton

The Senator representing Cross River North in Nigeria’s Senate, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, says he is fully involved and has endorsed the idea of creating Ogoja State, out of present day Cross River State.

Jarigbe also came clear that his insistence that Ogoja State be created out of Cross River State, is not an endorsement that seeks to
dismember CRS, but a well intentioned endorsement that will take development to one of Nigeria’s oldest province, still largely underdeveloped and marginalised in the scheme of things.

The senator who bared his mind early Saturday morning, June 22, 2024, when he appeared as guest on “The Public View”, HIT 95.9 FM, Calabar’s flagship news and current affairs programme, was particular that, “Ebonyi is what it is today because it was carved out of Enugu and made a state. It has brought development to that part of Nigeria
and there’s the added advantage of bringing governance close to the people. As I speak, Ogoja is the only old provincial headquarters in Nigeria that has not been made a state capital and this is sad, I must say.”

On attempts to classify and position Ogoja as belonging to Nigeria’s middle belt, Jarigbe insisted that, “Ogoja belongs to the South-South of Nigeria, we do not belong to the Middle belt because our people are in the South-South, our culture, our tradition; and we cannot be classified as belonging to the Middle because we are not.”

Senator Jarigbe who was represented by the Constituency Officer, Mr. Egar Mgbantul, noted that, the exercise will help to meet the ever-growing demand for seafood and provide Constituents with healthy protein, while reducing the pressure on wild fishes.

According to the lawmaker, the sector plays a significant role in ensuring food security, as fish is a major source of animal protein in Nigeria and also contributes to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through exports and domestic consumption.

“The empowerment programme is in line with the objective of grooming the youths to become job-creators, rather than job-seekers”.

“It is hoped that this will encourage the youths in our constituency to take up fish farming and other agricultural activities to empower themselves,’’ Egar added.

Constituents were selected from the fifty four (54) Wards of the Senatorial District and were awarded with start-up grants to enable them prepare a tank, get fingerlings and other necessary materials needed to breed the fingerlings to maturity stage.

Goodwill Message by Senator Representing Cross River North Senatorial District, Cross River State, on the Occasion of the 25th Anniversary of Unbroken Democracy in Nigeria.

    Fellow Nigerians,

    Respected Constituents,

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is with immense pride and gratitude that I join all democrats to celebrate a remarkable milestone in our nation’s history – 25 years of unbroken democracy. This occasion provides us with a moment to reflect on our journey, honor those who paved the way, and reaffirm our commitment to the principles of democracy.

First and foremost, let us pay tribute to the forefathers of our democracy. These courageous men and women fought tirelessly, many putting their lives on the line, to ensure that Nigeria could rise as a democratic nation. Their vision, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication laid the foundation upon which our democracy stands. We owe them an eternal debt of gratitude for their unparalleled contributions to our nation’s political evolution.

In a special way, we must extend our heartfelt thanks to former President of Nigeria, His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR. His patriotic and selfless act in 2015, when he handed over power without hesitation to the winner of the Presidential Election, was a watershed moment in our democratic history. By respecting the will of the people and ensuring a peaceful transition, Dr. Jonathan not only strengthened our fledgling democracy but also set a sterling example of leadership and statesmanship. His actions spoke volumes about his commitment to the principles of democracy and the future of Nigeria.

As we celebrate this silver jubilee of our democratic journey, it is imperative to acknowledge that democracy is not merely a destination but an ongoing process that requires constant nurturing and vigilance. Our democracy must be enduring, and to achieve this, our leaders must emulate the exemplary patriotism demonstrated by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. The election results must always reflect the true will of the people, free from coercion and manipulation.

To my fellow leaders, I urge you to always put Nigeria first. Our actions and decisions should be guided by the greater good of our nation and its citizens. Let us work together to uphold the values of transparency, accountability, and justice. By doing so, we will ensure that our democracy remains vibrant and resilient, capable of withstanding the tests of time.

In conclusion, as we mark this 25th anniversary of unbroken democracy, let us renew our pledge to protect and advance the democratic ideals that have brought us this far. Let us honor the sacrifices of our forebears and the exemplary actions of leaders like Dr. Goodluck Jonathan by committing ourselves to a future where the voice of every Nigerian is heard, respected, and valued.
