    Ayade’s Former Chief Of Staff, Hon Martins Orim Bags African Leadership Award

     

    Former Chief of Staff to the governor of Cross River, Chief Martin Orim, Thursday in Abuja received the African Leadership Award for Outstanding Public Service.

    The awards ceremony which was organized by United Nations and European Union affiliated African Indigenous Centre for Sustainable Development Goals (AIC4SDG) was in recognition of Orim’s ‘selfless service to humanity’ and ‘quest to foster a just society’.

    According to AIC4SDG, the award was also to recognize ‘the recipient’s flagship humanism which has helped to not only transform communities but has further impacted the lives of thousands in many positive ways’.

    Chief Martin Orim who dedicated the award to his late father, G.F.O Orim said he would continue to bring succor to the down trodden and the less privileged in the society, adding that he was always fulfilled helping the destitute.

    “I had since made a commitment to God that the only way I will continue to thank and appreciate him is to continue to help people. I will continue to be compassionate. I will continue to do charitable deeds as long as I breathe. It gives me profound joy to put smiles on people’s faces; and to see people grow and prosper through my benevolence. That is for me, the best service to God. I believe strongly that service to humanity is service to God. And this kind of service is what I will continue to render”, he remarked.

    While pledging to further expand the scope and capacity of the GFO Orim foundation, Hon. Orim said the award was an inspiration to touch more lives, families and communities in the course of time.

    He thanked the African Indigenous Centre for Sustainable Development Goals (AIC4SDG) for finding him deserving of the recognition and sued for partnership with the organization to further assuage the sufferings of people.

    Chief Martin Orim who is the APC senatorial candidate for Cross River North was accompanied to the event by the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Williams Jones; Member representing Obudu, Bekwarra & Obanliku federal constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo; the Leader of Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey as well as key Special Advisers to governor Ben Ayade, which included Hon. Emma Bepeh, Hon. Boniface Ishamali and Hon. Agness Atsu, as well as Hon. Sunny Martins amongst others.

    It would be recalled that Chief Martin Orim in his 7 years as Chief of Staff to Governor Ben Ayade, had donated his salaries to orphanages in the state.

    The Chief of Staff to the Cross River State Governor, Hon Martins Orim has contributed in no small measures to alleviate the plight of the down trodden in the state.

    Hon. Martins Orim decided to immortalize the virtues and legacies of his late dad, launched the GFO Foundation in 201….. Since the official launch of the GFO Orim’s Foundation, it has been a harvest of consolidated interventions, ranging from human capacity development (life skill), infrastructure, health and other humanitarian interventions.

    It is a known fact that this act of generosity is bequeathed to the Chief of Staff by his late dad for those who knew him.

    When contacted, Hon Martin Orim averred that “One of the ways to make my late father happy to ensure that I put a smile on the faces of the destitute, especially when I have the opportunity and resources to do so. It my desire to reach a good number of those who really are deserving of our assistance, but you see, we are constraint by the lean resources within our reach.

    “For those who knew my father, he was the pioneer catechist who brought the Catholic Church to Ubang, his home used to be a beehive of those who needed his mentorship, he could gather together to share with them what he has. He encouraged a lots of people, and I cannot forget his goodwill.

    “For me, the only way to say thank you to my late dad who is not here to see me become what I am, is to immortalize him through the GFO Orim Foundation.

    “It is my earnest desire to ensure that as a foundation, we target especially those who needs our support, to reduce the burdens on our vulnerable brothers and sisters”

    Hon. Martins Orim is a silent achiever who does not want most of the things his foundation is doing public, believes that he owes a duty to put a smile on the faces of the less privileged.

    Some of his silent achievements are as follows:

    1) a. Training of several people on Skills Acquisition, capacity building at Obudu. The first phase of this training in various skills has been ongoing since last year, some have graduated while others are still undergoing the training based on their different skills, they will be provided with start up kits as soon as they complete their trainings.

    b. Currently, he has partnered with the Industrial Training Fund ITF and training 50 youths in Obudu on Poultry, Catering, Decoration and plumbing. This is to provide the youths with certified certification that will guarantee their job security wherever they find themselves.

    2) Construction of a Mini Bridge at Okweriseng, Obudu.

    3) Construction of communal roads linking other communities at Okweriseng, Obudu.

    4) Empowered several people across the State with finances to set up Small and Medium scale businesses.

    5) Payment of hospital bills, including paying full charges for the incubation of twins that were prematurely delivered by a teenager at the University Teaching Hospital, Abakiliki, as well as payment of school fees for the less privileged across the state.

    6) Provision of Solar powered street lights for his ward, Alege/Ubang, Obudu.

    7) Donation of 25kva Diesel powered Mikano Generator and financial support to St. Charles Catholic church, Obudu.

    8) Financial Assistance and support to Orphanage Homes in Calabar and Ogoja on Monthly basis.

    9) Distribution of 23 Cars ( Yala – 1, Ogoja – 1, Bekwarra – 2, Obanliku – 4, Akpabuyo – 1 and Obudu – 14) and over 80 Motor cycles s to individuals in Cross River North Senatorial District.

    10) Donation of wheel chairs to the physically challenged persons across the state.

    11) Gifts of wrappers, food items, medical and financial support to Widows in the State.

    12) Building of a State of the Art Skills Acquisition Center for his community, Ubang, Obudu.

    13) Building of a Civic Center for his community Ubang, Obudu to aid Revenue generation.

    14) Award of scholarships to several indigenes of Cross River State from primary, post primary and tertiary institutions in the State.

    15) Facilitated employment of Cross Riverians into the Nigeria Police Force, the Military, Nigeria Civil Defense and Security Corps, NCDSC etc. etc.

    16) Equipped Primary and Secondary Schools with Computers and Science Laboratory equipments at Okweriseng, Ubang – Obudu

    17) Facilitated the building of a Telecommunications mast to aid his community and environs gain quality access to GSM Network in the 21st century.

    18) Provision of electricity supply to Ubang in Alege/Ubang Ward in Obudu LGA.

    19) Renovated a house for a widow at Anyikang, Bekwarra LGA.

    20. Provided a source of livelihood by setting a small medium enterprise for the widow at Anyikang

    All the interventions as enumerated above were captured under the various thematic areas of GFO Orim Foundation, which include: Access to equitable good health, Access to affordable education, Livelihood, Rights and Justice as well as other cross cutting issues.

    The Board and management of GFO Orim Foundation is opened to partnership from other organizations, group of individuals, philanthropists and even government at all levels to bridge the gap of the challenges of the populace.

    The management of GFO Orim Foundation has unveiled its plan to train and empower 40 youths drawn from the 10 political wards of Obudu Local Government Council.

    Addressing the trainees at the skill acquisition centre Obudu, the Coordinator of GFO Orim Foundation, Hon Peter Okaba, hinted that “this program is part of our numerous interventions to improve the livelihood of our people. At GFO Orim Foundation, we are poised to ensure that we better the lives of our people. You were nominated from your various wards by your leaders, and we want to restate our commitment to providing the needed services to the society”

    Hon. Peter Okaba maintained that “We have decided to partner with the Industrial Trust Fund, to give credibility to the training. GFO Orim Foundation will ensure that at the end of this training, you will have a good start to do you business”

    On her part, the Area Manager of ITF, Mrs Evelyn Irabor, who was represented by the Training Development Officer, Mr Illo Chukuemeka Fredrick, stated that “this is no longer an era of giving fish, it is the era of teaching people how to fish. I urge you to open your hearts to welcome this program.

    “As ITF, we have committed to the delivery of our mandate. We are trying to rewrite our stories”

    In another development, the Chief Audio Visual Assistant, Mr Innocent Animpuye, averred that “GFO Orim is offering you a rare privilege, after this training, comes the empowerment. We will pay you a monthly stipends of #5,000.00 for your transport. I want to urge you to take this project very seriously. Misconduct will meet equal disciplinary sanction.

    “I want to thank GFO Orim Foundation for this initiative. We must ensure that you have 80 percent attendance before you will be qualified to be provided with start up pack. This is a certified program, a federal government project. When we come for supervision and found out that you miss the program consecutively, for two weeks, you will be replace. The best and only way we will go is to forgo the links and connections that nominated you this program, so that you will acquire the needed skill for self reliance”

    Animpuye cited the Obi Cubana philosophy of lifting others and likened it the magnanimity of the Chairman of GFO Orim Foundation, who is the Chief of Staff to the Cross River State. He urged the participants to take advantage of this opportunity and ensure that the program has a positive effect on you.

    The program that is designed for three months will take place in the Calabar office of the Industrial Trust Fund for participants who are resident in Calabar. The skills to be learned in Calabar include; poultry, fisheries and crop farming while residents in Obudu will undergo training on plumbing, catering and event management.

    The Chief of Staff to the Cross River State Governor, Hon. Martin Orim has donated a vehicle to the first to be ordained priest from the Roman Catholic Mission RCM Bedia.

    The Soon to be ordained priest, Rev. Jeremiah Udida will be the first priest from Bedia in Obudu Local Government Area, where the wife of the Chief of Staff hails from.

    Hon. Orim had pledged the vehicle during the thanksgiving ceremony of Major General Parker Undiandeye at RCM Bedia.

    During the thanksgiving, the Priest In Charge of RCM Bedia, Rev. Fr. Paschal Ngang had told the congregation that the major challenge faced by the church was how to purchase a car for the new Priestley’s to be ordained.

    Announcing the donation, the Priest In Charge of RCM Bedia, Rev. Fr. Pascal Ngang wrote, “I just got this car for the first priest of Bedia origin to be ordained on Saturday the 8th of May, 2021,” as he shared images of the red Toyota Corolla on Saturday.

    Rev. Jeremiah Udida is among the ten Deacons to be ordained priests for the Catholic Diocese of Ogoja on the 8th of May, 2021 at St. Benedict Cathedral Ogoja, as part of the activities for the centenary celebration of the diocese.

    C’River Govt Delivers Relief Materials, Cash To Inmates Of Afokang Correctional Centre In Calabar

    As part of the policy direction of the Cross River State Government under the leadership of Sen Prof Ben Ayade to reach out to all citizens, relief materials have been delivered to inmates of the Afokang Correctional Centre, Calabar.

    Making the presentation on behalf of the Govermor Ayade at Afokang on Monday, the state Commissioner for Humanity and Social Welfare, Hon. Blessing Egbara said that the gesture was part of the effort of the administration of Ayade to show love and kindness to the inmates, and that it is on this basis that he has directed her to reach out to them.

    The Commissioner commended Professor Ben Ayade for being a selfless leader who reaches out to his People, irrespective of their circumstances, social status or offence that has been committed.

    Hon. Egbara revealed that the purpose of the visit was to let the inmates know that they may have broken the law, but doesn’t mean government has turn its back on them.

    “We are very happy to be here today to hand over relief materials to the inmates, we all know how the country is during this period, we are here to let them know that being here doesn’t make them less humans in the society. They are law offenders, and being here is to correct them and make them better citizens of the society, we have come to support the Correctional authority in Afokang in whatever they are doing for their welfare”

    Besides handing over food items, hand sanitizers, and nose mask to the inmates, the Hon Commissioner also make a Cash Donation of two hundred and fifty thousand naira (250,000) on behalf of the G. F. O Foundation, instituted by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon.. Martin Orim.

    “The chief of staff to the governor also partners with the Ministry through the G. F. O Foundation from time to time to help us take care of the less privileged in the society and for this visit, he has given us 250,000 to assist with the welfare of the inmates”

    Reacting to the Visit, the Deputy Controller of Corrections in the state, Mr Nickolas Obinna, thanked the state Governor, Sen Prof Ben Ayade for his kind heart at remembering the inmates, while also welcoming the Commissioner and her team to the Correction Center, stressing further that the visit is very timely and very thoughtful of the State Government to remember the inmates in a time like this.

    “I am overwhelmed with Joy, because they came at the right time, on behalf of the Controller, I want to thank God and also thank You for your visit because this will go a long way to reduce the sufferings of the inmates, honestly this shows that the Government has us at heart, I also want to appreciate His Excellency for reaching out to his people through this ministry I would love this synergy to go on,” Oninna maintained.

    The Deputy Controller also use the medium to appeal to the governor, Professor Ayade to come to their aid as the roof and buildings of some offices in the correctional centers needs fixing.

    The Chief of Staff to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State, Hon. Martins Orim has rewarded five PDP party faithfuls with brand new cars as part of his benevolent gesture to reward their selfless commitment and support to him personally and the party at large.

    The presentation of the cars took place today September 6th, 2020 as part of the 2020 Obudu new yam festival held at Governor Ayade’s Chief of Staff residence, Okweriseng-Ubang, in Obudu local government area of cross river state.

    Presenting the car key to the Obudu Chapter Chairman of PDP, Mr. Enerst Ublibli, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonas Williams urged him to make judicious use of the car both for the service of the party and private use.

    Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo commended the Chief of Staff to the governor for considering Mr. Justine Ayabie Adie popularly called (Ajepota), as many people relegates his kind, he fuel the vehicle with the sum of (#100,000.00) one hundred naira and promised to take responsibility of the car maintainance.

    Speaking on the choice of the beneficiaries, the Chief of Staff to the governor noted that Hon. Philip Ikpah is one man who stood his grounds to support his (Hon. Martins Orim) aspiration to become councilor against the powerful forces that moved against him then. Hon. Philip Ikpah was ready to resign his appointment as Supervisor for Finance when the then Chairman of council was bent on removing Hon. Martins Orim as Deputy Leader of Council. He has however, remain very resolute and decisive in his support for the Chief of Staff, and is currently, a member of the Care Taker Committee of the PDP in the state.

    The former State Chairman and now Care Taker Committe Chairman of PDP, Ntufam Inok Edim, while presenting the car to Hon. Ikpah, called on the people of Obudu to support the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Martins Orim who started a foundation in honor of his late father and donated items to the less privileged and today, he is presenting cars to deserving party faithfuls.

    Those who were rewarded with the cars are:
    Mr. Henry Ublili- PDP Chapter Chairman, Obudu
    Mr. Augustine Odzie Abua – PDP Chapter Secretary, Obudu
    Mr. Justine Ayabie Adie – party supporter
    Hon. Sylvester Agabi – Former Leader of Obudu legislative Council
    Hon. Philip Ikpah – Member, PDP State Care Taker Committee.

    Speaking on behalf of the recipients of the Chief of Staff’s magnanimity, Hon. Philip Ikpah thanked Hon. Martins Orim for having recognized their contributions and efforts to stabilize the polity of their boss and plegded to make good use of the cars and stated that “the reward for good work is more work”
    He however noted that the car gift is a call to further strengthen their support and loyalty to their boss and principal, hecommended the support of the wife of the Chief of Staff over the years.

    The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Martins Orim used the circumstance of the event to eulogize the member representing Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku federal constituency, Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo for his unwavering support for Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade, the governor of cross river state.

    Orim held that “the support given to the governor by Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo is unprecedented. He has stood by the governor through the trying moments. While other National Assembly members picked expression of intent forms, Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo waited for the governor to give him directives to pick the form. Rt. Hon. Legor said he can only pick the form if the governor ask him to do so, you can see the level of support and loyalty he showed to our brother. Whatever, Rt. Hon. Legor ask from Obudu, I’m sure we will give him in reciprocation of his support for us”

    The Chief of Staff further averred that “the bond of friendship that exist between Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo and I is very strong to a point that in 2018, some people told Rt. Legor that I was going to run election against him, and he said, if it is Chief of Staff, I will support him”

    On his part, Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo stated that “everything the Chief of said is very correct. In fact, in the build up to the 2015 election, one of my supporters had complained and was at the verge of withdrawing his support for me, Hon. Martins Orim asked me what the problem was and I told him the man wants me to buy a car for him, the Chief of Staff willingly gave me his wife’s car to give to the man.

    “The Chief of Staff supported me morally and financially to see to the emergence of the Speaker of House Representatives, Rt. Femi Gbajamibiala.

    “My wife told me, the Chief of Staff is truly your friend, I will do everything to sustain this friendship. Whatever Hon. Martins ask for, I will support him”

    The event was graced by party faithfuls, women and traditional rulers across the local government area.

    The Chief of Staff’s humanitarian and philanthropic nature is hereditary as his late father was a renowned philanthropist who stopped at nothing to ensure that everyone who comes in contact with him gets something that tends to solve their problems.

    The Chief of Staff had just last week donated and installed solar lights in all the 19 villages including the palaces of all traditional rulers that makes up Ukpe, Alege and Ubang (UKALU) as well as the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Obudu of Obudu local government area, HRM, Uti JD Agba.
