As a historian, I ‘ve always had cause to speak it because I ‘ve read about it from Archival Documents. 2023: Come Up WITH Revolutionary Ideas To Change Cause Of things In C’ River, Sen Onor Charges Youths

    By Judex Okoro, Calabar

Cross River governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Sen. Sandy Onor, has called on the youths to come up with revolutionary ideas to change the cause of things in the ahead of 2023 in the state.

Speaking at PDP Town Hall meeting of major youth stakeholders and leaders of support groups organized by WANBONEH group and held in Calabar on Friday, Onor, representing Cross River senatorial district, said the youths, with a lot of energy, have a say in the state and that is why he made a forty-one year-old lady as his deputy governor.

He disclosed that those who have ruled the state in the past were in their youthful age and urged them not to be allow selfish politicians to manipulate their youthful energy, adding that life is full of vicissitudes but with purpose and determination they can conquer.

He said: “I have worked with youths and believe in youthful energy because as a youth I was a party chairman. But look at my age and so things must change. I am not going to lead Cross Riverians astray. I would tell you the truth and be practical with ourselves by returning to our land and harvest the nature’s gift.

“It is high time youths stopped being manipulated by those who don’t have their interest at heart and should neither listen to people who manipulate their energy to achieve a purpose and later dump them, promising to empower them in practical terms once he is elected in 2023 and not on the food-on-the-table agenda.”

On the issue of back-to-south zoning arrangement, he said: “The issue of zoning was too emotional thereby undermining the mission of our struggle. Besides, the party primaries were too competitive and everybody who came was a quality material to be toyed with. So, let us try and put beyond the acrimonies of yesterday. I love back-to-back to south movement because it has its own energy. I have worked for the south before those clamouring now.

“I was the chairman of the defunct Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN) as a youth and I supported southern candidates. So, we should shun ethnic politics to move the state forward because we are in a mess. When I win, I would be blind to ethnicity. I believe in quality as long as you can add value to the government.

“In the history of the state, nobody has dominated one another neither any group has. So, why are people trying to divide us because we have commonalities? For now, we should look at competing fiercely and favourably with whosoever APC brings. And now is the time for PDP youths to rise to the occasion. Therefore, I caution the youths against engaging in anti-party because it does not help anyone and it is a smack of hypocrisy and witchcraftcy.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the National Leader of WANBONEH, Comrade Asu Abang, said the stakeholders’ meeting was organized as part of healing processes among the youths and see how they can come together to deliver the PDP candidates across board.

Abang said: “We wanted to seat together and discuss some issues that arose from the primaries across the state. As stakeholders, the youths have significant roles to play ahead of 2023. We know some youths are angry over the non-realisation of back-to-south arrangement in terms of the governorship.

“However, now that we have chosen who leads us at all levels, it is imperative all the youths speak in unison and move into the field and mobilise the electorate for PDP because when we win, all us would be better for it. This is not the time for blame-game as we must come out with zeal and determination to reclaim the state from APC.”

  • The Choice Before Cross River People Is A Simple One BY DOMINIC KIDZU

The Choice Before Cross River People Is A Simple One BY DOMINIC KIDZU

There is really no difficulty in making the supreme choice come 2023 for the people of Cross River State as it will be indeed for the people of Nigeria, because the issues are not complicated in the least, and the choices are etched in simple bold print. It will be the choice between crass failure, criminal negligence and pathological telling of lies to the people and a broad new canvass of opportunity to try someone new, someone vibrant and credible. It will be a choice between the impunity, the audacity and the recklessness of the current administration and the broad promise of a serious alternative that will be forthright and respect systems, conventions and propriety while working for the good of the people. It is going to be refreshing to listen to the Governor or his aides speak and to believe what one hears in a way that has been impossible for over seven years now.

As Senator Sandy Onoh cryptically hinted in Saint Charles Catholic parish, Obudu, the day after he received the cross of Saint Gregory the great; “We are not going to tell lies to our people when we get into government. We shall be honest with our people. We shall promise what we can do and shall not promise what we cannot do. The simple reason that you are in government is not sufficient for you to become a liar to your fellow citizens who put you in office “.

And now at last the chicken are coming home to roost because there is a whirlwind of political consciousness and rebirth that is demanding restitution for the years of plundering and a new start for the stricken Cross River State, despoiled and raped by the present leadership that does not seem to understand when enough is enough. As Mahatma Gandhi put it “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s greed.” If only they know when to stop and think and begin to repair. We the people must rescue ourselves by taking sides with our dear state, since brinkmanship has fallen flat on its face. As accordingto Martin Luther King Jnr, “There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because his conscience tells him it is right.” Ala General Yakubu Gowon, to kick APC out of Cross River State is a job that must be done!

The APC is in a glass jar and we can now all see what it contains. The indices at last have vindicated the PDP because facts and figures don’t lie. A vote for the APC in Cross River is a validation of failure as our new standard of measurement. A vote for APC is a vote for the continuation of the years of famine, for the rule of the artful dodgers and crafty contrivers.

A vote for people who believe Oscar Wilde’s joke that ” any man who lives within his means suffers from a painful lack of imagination.” There shall be no more salaries because the banks will shut their doors against them. Already business activities have grinded to a halt. There shall be weeping and knashing of teeth and this land shall be left desolate.

Unfortunately, Sweetprince, the party’s governorship candidate, is just a sacrificial lamb whose role will be to wash the putrefaction of his sponsors with hyssop and leave his followers holding the can. We all have a responsibility to save Sweetprince, (God bless his kind heart) from himself and the bagage
men pulling him by the tither. Because they will make a mess of him. They will dent his image. They will destroy his reputation. They will place the rot of eight years squarely upon his head and continue to ask for more. They will make his name a byword, even amongst his kith and kin. And he shall not be able to utter one word contrariwise in his own defence.

The descent to infamy shall be swift. And, alas, in the end Sweetprince will become Bitterprince and things will fall apart, and the centre will nolonger hold, because he can only be a puppet on the leash of the master godfathers who cannot be satisfied or surpassed. And then ofcourse, a cow will not give birth to a goat. The old Sweetprince shall depart poste haste, leaving behind a grotesque reincarnation of gorgon medusa, a scary king in the service of his earthly gods who have chained him to the floor in advance. And this fallen house, to borrow the words of Karl Maier, shall finally crumble into nothingness.

Sandy Onor Admonishes Students Of COLMCILLE Memorial Academy Egrude – Ntamante, Boki LGA To Take Their Studies Seriously

The gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, for the 2022 general elections and senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, Sen Sandy Onor has called on students of COLMCILLE Memorial Academy Egrude – Ntamante, Boki Local Government Area to take their studies very seriously and shun all forms of vices that will impact negatively on their academic performances.

Sen Sandy who was represented by the Director General of the Caterpillar Movement, Chief Joe Obi Bisong, made the admonition during the meiden graduation ceremony of COLMCILLE Memorial Academy Egrude – Ntamante, Boki LGA held on Saturday, July 23rd 2022.

The lawmaker identified and condemned the deteriorating rate of learning among students in our contemporary society, especially in the rural setting. He charged the students to rise to the challenge of the moment by taking their studies very seriously and put in their best to enable them compete favorably with other students when the need arises.

Speaking further, senator Onor decried the increasing rate of drug abuse amongst students, which he referred to as a fertile ground for the upshoot of prostitution, cultism and occultism among young people.

He said, “When you do drugs and become intoxicated or high, it becomes easy for you to be initiated into cultism. When you get initiated, you begin to look for ways to protect yourself from harm, that is how you will have to move from drugs to cultism and to occultism, where you finally sell yourself to the devil”.

He used the opportunity to commend the management and staff of the institution for all the efforts and sacrifices made to inculcate the needed knowledge in the students which he referred to as future Presidents, Governors, Engineers, Medical Doctors among other professions. He stressed that the students needs to be given nothing less, than the best as the generation next rest on them. He congratulated the school, parents and students for the successful outing of the madein graduation ceremony.

Sen Onor charged the graduands to be worthy ambassadors of their alma mater and wished them the best as they seek admission into higher institutions of learning.

  • Sandy Onor, Others Receives Papal Honours From The Roman Catholic Church

Sandy Onor, Others Receives Papal Honours From The Roman Catholic Church

    By Elijah Ugani

The Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis I, has bestowed Papal Honours on the Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District who doubles as the Cross River State PDP gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 general election, Ntufam Prof Sandy Ojang Onor for his commitment to the Catholic faith in particular and humanity at large.

His Lordship, the Most Rev Dr Donatus Edet Akpan charged the recipients to see the honor as an invitation to serve humanity and defend the faith they professed.

The Bishop held that God sought the prophet Isaiah’s disposition to his apostolic mandate, when he asked, “whom shall I send and who will go? And Isaiah answered, here am I send me”. Continuing, he charged them to affirm their willingness to serve the Church in this new capacity.

Speaking further, the Bishop maintained that the call to serve in this capacity transcends beyond human thought and cited the scenerio at Jesse’s house where the prophet Samuel had thought that he could anoint one of the handsome looking young me he met, but God did not choose any of them, he rather found favour in the last born David the shepherd who was in the field looking after the flock.

He used the opportunity to inform those whose names were dropped from the Papal honours that the decision was strictly that of the Church. “The committee in the Diocese recommended the names that we sent to Rome, I will be stupid to request for explanation why some names were dropped”
He however encouraged the congregation to see the approval of the awardees as an act of God.

Sen. Sandy Ojang Onor was among the ten persons inducted into the Knighthood of Saint Gregory the Great SGG, while four other persons were inducted into the Knighthood of St Stephen.

Two senior priests of the diocese, Very Rev Frs Atemgweye Unimna and George Chokpa were conferred with the Mosignori.

Speaking during the reception organized in his honour, Senator Onor posited that it’s very difficult to sperate the relationship between the church and the State as they are inextricably interrelated and cannot function without the other.

He further stated that “the church is worried that we now have a completely failed state and promised on his honour to lead Cross River State out of the woods if elected Governor come 2023”

Indeed, Senator Sandy Ojang Onor has beyond Politics, proven his loyalty to the things of Christ and the course of humanity.

The difference between the Papal honours of Knighthood and the normal Knighthood of St John International and St Molumba is that in the Papal honours, the diocese nominate base on one’s contribution to the Church, confirmed by a body in Rome and conferred by the Pope (Papal honours), while in normal Knighthood, you have to indicate interest, attend the necessary lectures, write examination and on successful completion, you are inducted, this is strictly a diocesan affairs.

Nko-Oyadama Crisis: Sandy Onor Regrets The Effect On Nko People, Calls On All Parties Involved In The Unfortunate Development To Cease Fire Immediately And Allow The Rule Of Law To Prevail

    Press Statement

It is disheartening and highly regrettable that the persistent and unmitigated crisis between the Nko people of Yakurr Local Government Area and their Onyadama neighbours in Obubra Local Government Area has snowballed into the destruction of lives and property.

This ugly situation which has recently, so badly affected the people of Nko and their means of livelihood is to say the least, extremely sad. I call on all parties involved in the unfortunate development: the military, Nko and Onyadama people to cease fire immediately and allow the rule of law to prevail.

At this time when we are facing the most difficult economic situation in our nation’s history; when issues of development and improved livelihood are at the core of governance, people should not be seen engaging in this sort of inhumanity.

I strongly request that all legal processes that will lead to a resolution and reconciliation of the issues at stake should be put in place immediately, so that all involved would return to their normal lives and continue their businesses without any threat and harassment.

I also urge all relevant stakeholders to make themselves available to all processes geared toward bringing a lasting solution to the crisis, as we pledge to do all within our means to provide a secure and free society for our people.

    Thank you.

    Sen. Prof. Sandy Onor
    Senator Rep. Central Senatorial District
    Cross River State.

Post Primary Election Press Conference By Sen Sandy Ojang Onor, Governorship Candidate Of The People’s Democratic Party PDP, On Saturday, June 11 2022 At The NUJ Press Centre, Calabar

POST PRIMARY ELECTION PRESS CONFERENCE BY SENATOR SANDY OJANG ONOR, GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE OF THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY(PDP) ON SATURDAY, JUNE 11, 2022, AT THE NUJ PRESS CENTRE, CALABAR

    Gentlemen of the Press

Some six months ago, I made an appearance in this auditorium, where I shared my thoughts with you on my plans and programmes for the new Cross River State of my dream. At that time, I was doing my consultations with party men and women and indeed all Cross Riverians. Considering how important you are to me and to the Cross River project, I also consulted and informed you of my desire to contest for the seat of governor of this state, for the good of all the people. I was just an aspirant then and I sought everybody’s support, including yours, to enable me win our party’s ticket as precursor to winning the general election.

I have returned today to say thank you, my friends and partners in the media, for the role you played individually and collectively. Recall that during my last interaction with you, I had promised that I will be having this interface with you from time to time. I am a man of my words, hence this second coming. I will keep coming and will ensure a blossoming relationship with the media because I cannot fulfil my dreams for this state without you.

I have also come so that I can, for the umpteenth time, thank all members of the PDP for trusting in and supporting me to emerge the flagbearer of the Party, ahead of the general election which comes up next year.

Almost immediately after the primary election, I had acknowledged the mentorship of our leaders and their efforts towards the successful and peaceful conduct of the election. I will do it again today, in your presence. I cannot get tired of thanking our former governors – Mr Donald Duke and Senator Liyel Imoke for their fatherly roles in midwifing the processes that led to the historic primary election. And again, for generously displaying the spirit of sportsmanship, I must continue to hail all the contenders in that election, especially the major players – Senator Gershom Bassey and Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo. They will always be remembered on the right side of history.

A few days ago, I received my certificate of return as the gubernatorial candidate from the leadership of our party, the PDP. It was a very humbling experience for me, knowing what it means for our state at this critical time in our political life. I have chosen to dedicate the certificate to God, all PDP leaders in and outside our state and all members of our party from the three senatorial districts of this state.

With the certificate of return now safely with us, preparations for the general election have got to the next level. I am aware that the people of Cross River State are very anxious to see the birth of the new Cross River State that we promised. All I can say is that we are very close to our Eldorado. Darkness will soon give way to light and our people will smile again.

I will need the support of all citizens and residents for us to achieve this. It starts from the determination of our people to register as voters and making sure their PVC is with them. As a Cross Riverian therefore, I am begging you, go and get your PVC. That is the only weapon that you have. When you get it, please keep it safely. You will need it on election day, not as a bargaining power for N1000 naira or some cups of rice from those desperate power seekers, but for you to be able to reclaim this state from people who have no value for your life; the same people who are now making moves to borrow another N35 billion, with only a few months left to the end of their administration.

As at March this year, the debt profile of this state stood at $279 million, according to the Debt Management Office. Yet, the out-going government is thinking of conniving with the state House of assembly to borrow this whooping sum, just to put the final nail on the coffin, before they leave the stage. There cannot be another way to show how wicked and inconsiderate a government can be towards her people. We must not allow this to happen, because the incoming government will be inheriting a mountain of debts to grapple with.

In any case, in the eyes of the law, there is no House of Assembly in Cross River State and anything that carries the imprimatur of this Assembly is null] and void ab initio. This should therefore serve aS warning to all financial institutions in and outside Nigeria, not to grant any loan,in whatever form, to the current government of Cross River State, as they will be doing so at a very high risk. Until the courts pronounce otherwise, the House of Assembly as currently constituted, cannot enact legally binding resolutions and laws.

This takes me to the issue of the laughable plans by the government of Prof. Ben Ayade to conduct local government elections in this state, only a few days to the day he will hand over power as governor. This cannot also stand because in law, you cannot build something on nothing. In the eyes of the law, the state House of Assembly is in abeyance and therefore cannot confirm the governor’s appointees into the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission. So, members of the commission as announced by the governor and supposedly confirmed are a product of illegality; hence they lack the legal powers to handle that all important state assignment.

We are committed to the task of reclaiming this state and we will do so through every legal means.

Until we meet again as partners in progress, I implore you, gentlemen of the press, not to be silent over the evil plots of this present government against our state and its people. I urge you to stand up to be counted as worthy stakeholders as we work hard towards recovering all that the locust had taken away from our state.

I thank you for your kind attention.

    Senator Sandy Ojang Onor,
    Governorship Candidate
    PDP
    June 11, 2022.

Re: We Must Send Him On Early Retirement From Politics<< Senator Sandy Ojang Onor And His Supporters To Senator Gershom Bassey.

The attention of the Caterpillar Movement has been drawn to a malicious, perfidious and self-concocted opinion from one Citizen Ekanem Essien, in which he claimed that he was present when the trio of Sen Sandy Onor, Sen Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe and Mr Venatius Ikem listed notables like Gershom Bassey, His Excellency, Barr Efiok Cobham, Amb Nkoyo Toyo and Rt Hon Daniel Asuquo, for retirement from active politics.

Ordinarily, we would not have responded to this cheap spurious fabrication borne out of frustration resulting from the inability of its author to acquiesce defeat. But, ignoring him completely may send a wrong message to some quarters. While we acknowledge the role of propaganda in politics, as theorized by Machiavelli, it is important that sociopathic beguilers like Citizen Ekanem Essien should know that they cannot successfully play on the sensibilities of our people, definitely not when it involves a reputable personality like Senator Sandy Onor.

We understand how painful it is for Citizen Ekanem Essien that despite his countless defamatory claims about our Principal, including the lie of purchasing two Intent forms for different positions, he still won the primaries election with a comfortable lead. Ekanem Essien has left no one in doubt that Senator Sandy Onor’s emergence as PDP Gubernatorial Candidate for 2023 election and the calm that has since followed the victory is both shocking and traumatising to him. He is adviced to accept this reality so that he could live at peace with himself and his neighbours.

While we recognize his right to mobilize support for his preferred candidate, he has no right to interlope with falsehoods in the affairs of a colossus like Senator Sandy Onor.

Sen Sandy Onor all through his public service is known for building bridges across ethnic, religious and gender lines. He believes in the principle of collective individualism, anchored on interconnectivity.

We want to use this opportunity to invite all lovers of Cross River State to join us as we begin the journey to reclaim the state.

Cross River State is safe with Sen Sandy Onor!
