The University of Calabar Faculty of Engineering has honoured Dr Oli Olowhu, with a prestigious award in recognition of his contribution to the department of Petroleum Engineering.
The award was presented to Dr Oli Olowhu by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Engr Prof Fidelis Abam, on the 30th of January, 2026 at the conference room of the faculty during the end of the Five-Day SEPAL Solver WRM Training/Workshop.
Prof Abam noted that Dr Oli exhibited uncommon characteristics in his support for the Faculty of Engineering and used the opportunity to called on all alumni of the university to learn from Oli and give back to the university.
The Acting Head, Department of Petroleum Engineering, Engr Precious Effiom, noted that Dr Oli has shown resilience, willingness and zeal to support the department and the faculty to achieve her goals and objectives.
She listed Oli Oluwhu contributions to include securing internship opportunities in Elcrest E&P for graduates of the department and the recent facilitation of the SEPAL Solver WRM training/workshop.
Also speaking, the former Head, Department of Petroleum Engineering, Engr Ekpenyong Ana, noted that “The personality of Dr Oli Olowhu, needs to be studied. He approached the department and indicated interest to support and move the department forward by introducing the idea of industry- academic collaboration. He was here during the accreditation and played very pivotal role during the accreditation. He again linked us to CypherCrescent and today we are here to celebrate the outcome of his drive to give the faculty of Engineering the skills and techniques needed to compete favourably with other Engineering graduates in the industry. We cannot thank him enough”.
Engr. Ana used the opportunity to call on students to see the contributions and commitment of Dr Oli as a challenge to give back to the university when the opportunity is provided.
Responding, Dr Oli Olowhu, thanked the faculty of Engineering, University of Calabar, for the honour done to him. He dedicated the award to all those who sacrificed their time to attend the Five-day hands-on practical training on SEPAL Solver WRM Training/Workshop.
He thanked the former Dean, faculty of Engineering, Prof Odey Osha for his disposition and support which culminated in what turns out to be a celebration today. He acknowledged the support of the Dean, faculty of Engineering, Engr Prof Fidelis Abam, the former Head of Petroleum Engineering, Engr Ekpenyong Ana, as well as the current Head of Petroleum Engineering Engr Precious Effiom.
He reiterated his commitment to the faculty and noted that “this honour is a call to do more. For whom much is given, much is expected. Together, we will make this faculty and graduates from here compete favourably with their contemporaries from other well established Engineering faculties in the country”.
