The member representing Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku federal constituency, Chief Hon Peter Akpanke, has once again demonstrated his unwavering support and love for his people by funding the annual Keting Street Carnival.
The Keting Street Carnival which was conceived as a church event in 2011, has now grown to be a worthwhile celebration as supported by Hon Peter Akpanke.
The Chairman of the Keting Street Carnival, Mr Clement Ushupel, who berthed the Keting Carnival, welcomed guests to the carnival and stated particularly that the carnival has gained acceptance as Hon Peter Akpanke, has been the major financier of the carnival for the past five years, even before he was elected.
The event brought together members from neighboring communities who displayed different cultural performances to the admiration and cheers of all.
Speaking with TheLumineNews, Hon Akpanke, noted that his desire to support and fund the Keting Street Carnival is to ensure that his people come together and celebrate the Christmas.
In his words “I am very particular about this street carnival because it offers us the opportunity to come together and share love. I enjoy being with my people. The organizer approached me in 2019 to support this initiative, I was left with no option than to take over the sponsorship of this carnival even when I was not yet a member of parliament.
“What you see today like a child’s play has the potential to be developed into an international event. It is my desire that the right approach is adopted in the coming years to give this event the face lift it desires as it drift into the world”
Speaking on how he feels about this year’s Street Carnival, the MP said that “I’m particularly elated because my people are happy. You can see how they feel. My joy is to see that they are happy. My joy knows no bound”.
On the prospect of the carnival, Hon Akpanke, averred that “In my capacity, I will continue to support and provide the funds to ensure sustanance of the event”.
The event featured Master/Miss Christmas 2024, and was graced by dignitaries including: Mr Aniashie Akpanke PhD, Rev Fr Rogers Mowang, Mr Emmanuel Ishiekwen, Mr Emmanuel Abua, Engr Boniface Aboh amongst others.
Hon Akpanke supported the Carnival with a cow among which was used for suya assorted drinks.
