Mediatrix Development Foundation Marks Cancer Awareness Month With Walk, Screening, And Education

Mediatrix Development Foundation (MDF), an NGO founded by the former First Lady of Cross River State, Dr. Linda Ayade, in partnership with Global Partners and supported by First Lady Against Cancer (FLAC), recently marked Cancer Awareness Month in Calabar, Cross River State. The event kicked off with a walk led by the Governor’s wife, Her Excellency Rev. Mrs. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, featuring activities like HPV vaccination awareness for girls aged 9-14, breast cancer awareness, and free screening services.

The theme “Every story is unique, every journey matters” highlights the importance of personalized care and support. During the event, Mediatrix Development Foundation leveraged the 5km-Go Pink Day Walk to share vital information, education, and communication materials on cancer. Participants received free medical examinations and screenings for breast, prostate, and cervical cancer.

MDF’s efforts to educate and raise awareness about cancer are in line with her mission. This initiative builds on the foundation’s previous health outreaches and activities, which have made a significant impact in the community. Over the years, MDF has implemented various programs aimed at improving healthcare outcomes, promoting health education, and providing support to vulnerable populations.

Some of MDF’s notable initiatives include medical outreaches and vaccination drives. These programs have helped increase awareness about various health issues, including cancer, HIV/AIDS, and maternal health.

The foundation’s school-based interventions have also been instrumental in promoting health education among young people. By engaging with students and teachers, MDF has been able to disseminate vital information on health issues, including cancer prevention and treatment.

With plans to extend the cancer awareness initiative to Central and Northern Cross River in the coming months, MDF is poised to make an even greater impact in the state. Through its sustained efforts, the foundation aims to increase awareness about HPV, breast cancer, and other health issues, ultimately reducing the burden of disease in the community.
